Is this 2011 Tacoma a decent buy?

I will say the 2.7 is one tough engine but I also will say it's pretty gutless. My 97 2.7 had 300+K on it when I sold it.

The biggest issues with the 6 speed is the nut behind the wheel. No it not a rally car but one still has to be just a little bit smarter than the transmission in order for it to work properly.

Fair. Mine was a former Orkin vehicle. They have a ton of former service trucks in Central Texas. They go to auction once they update their fleet.

Apparently this truck was in a front end collision and was deemed salvaged. Someone bought it, repaired it, got it inspected and it passed. So they tag it with rebuilt instead of salvage so it can be driven on the roads. Sometimes it’s a great deal, sometimes not. I’m not even sure if CT recognizes out of state rebuilt titles. Something I have to look into. Probably not going to get it but if someone else does I wish them luck.

Yeah that sounds about right coming from a dealer. What is the rust situation in your area? I see it’s just north of Orlando.

Not sure why the infatuation with having a 4cyl manual trans when you can have a V6 auto with much more power, availability and options. Having to drive my '98 TJ 4cyl 5sp then going to my Tacoma is like driving a more HP Caddy. And yes, I do regret buying the 4cyl TJ vs. a 6cyl.

I have a 2014 base model regular cab automatic. It has LSD. This one is listed as having LSD on the dealer website.
The 4 cyl is slow but not bad if you don't put large tires on it. I have Cooper STT Pros at 265/75-R16 and they challenge the motor when in low RPMs. A 6 cylinder would be great if you can get a good one (no rusted frame), but this is a good truck if you don't need something bigger.
If you like it, just offer less than they are asking with cash if possible. Good luck!!!

I sympathize with the OP, I had to research and buy a truck very quickly following an accident, I searched everywhere.
I loved my 22RE and manual transmission and if you aren't in a hurry, a four cyl Tacoma would be fine, but the V-6 seems a better fit. Rust is a major factor. Anything but minimal light surface rust would be a "no sale" for me.
Find a Tacoma in good shape and be flexible. I'd rather buy a mint 2007 with V-6 AT than a rusty 2017 with the 4 cyl manual that I wanted. Even though there's a lot of them, Tacomas are rarely cheap.

I totally get the 4 cyl vs 6 cyl argument. Still a hard decision. Price is a factor but so it overall happiness with the truck, haha. Also my current truck has about 112hp and the newer 4 cyl is ~159.

I’m looking at these two right now.

    2014 Regular Cab 4 cyl 61k miles
    $15k
    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/783677467/overview?aff=share_other

    vs

    2011 Access Cab 6 cyl 81k miles
    $18k
    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/782845365/overview?aff=share_other

Fewer miles, 3 years newer and cheaper vs higher (but still low) miles, 3 years older and $3k more expensive but it’s a TRD sport V6...

Anyone around to do a shake down on the 4 cyl in Sanford, FL?

That’s a nice truck but I’m trying to go under 100k miles. Price is a factor but I’ll pay more for fewer miles. Plus my current truck is 126k and it feels weird going up in mileage. Thanks for the link though!

I’m not into automatic at all. I’d only get one if it was my last resort. And I also don’t like “options”. That’s why I like my ‘94 so much! Didn’t even have a clock when I got it! I had to add that one. The v6 is the only thing that’s tripping me up.
The more HP caddy sounds like an awful vehicle. Meaning like a luxury pickup truck...seems like an oxymoron. For me best case scenario is if my pickup was a little uncomfortable.

I’m going to miss my ‘94.

Ok, that white 4 cyl in Florida just sold. Still on the hunt. Maybe I will check out that V6 in Tennessee then. On the hunt for more!

Good luck man, I say pay extra for a V6, but I might be biased since I had a 4 and now a 6.

Key difference=power. Fuel mileage only a couple mpg different at best

This 100%. You have to see pics of either the undercarriage or the ultrasound before agreeing to anything here.

Don't take the seller's word for it. Go through Toyota, maybe you'll have to work around the dealer by establishing a case with Toyota corporate.

Right now since the Florida 4 cyl sold, I have two trucks I like for sale and they’re both v6’s. One TRD Sport with 80k miles and one non-TRD with 60k miles. Both gray, both access cab and both for around $17,5. The TRD is in Memphis and has probably less rust than the non TRD near me. I’m thinking go with the higher mileage Memphis one if it checks out ok.

Would love to come to a conclusion this weekend.

Sorry you missed out on the regular cab. It sounds like that would be ideal for you. You like the same things I do.
I just opted for the automatic this time because I'm getting old and lazy, and it came with buckets.

Yeah that regular cab was nice. It was newer and had low mileage. I also like the facelift on that one that I think started in 2012 or 2013. Oh well.

But also when walking to the office from the subway I see a TRD Sport in grey in traffic. Pretty much the same exact truck as the Memphis one. Looks very nice. Are the sports lowered at all? This looked stock but also looked not as tall as I was expecting...maybe because I was on the curb. Either way, some slightly beefier tires and it would do me just fine. Maybe I can use the AT tires I have on my ‘94 and swap them over...
