i dunno, the price really sounds reasonable, considering i paid $40k for my '18 sport in 2021 with 32k miles on it...

Hi Guys,

Newbie here. And new to Tacomas.

I made an offer on a 2018 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, TRD, 4x4 Off Road. It has 152K on it. They accepted my offer of $25K pending some repairs. I was a bit surprised by how many miles on it for it being a 2018. It was also bought by the dealer at an auction.

The Good:
Truck is loaded. Has all the features I expected. I took it to my mechanic and he thought it was good (again pending some critical repairs). Clean CarFax. And appears that all normal maintenance has been done. Test drive (with my mechanic) was positive, ran strong, no obvious problems.

The Bad:
Oil leaking from front/timing chain seal. I know this is a huge job (20 hours, $4K+). It was also throwing a Bank 2 Catalytic Converter code.

I told them that I'd be good on my offer but they'd have to fix the oil leak(s), catalytic converter, and put on new front brake pads (currently at 25%). I told them they needed to use Genuine Toyota parts, Toyota FIPS, and show me receipts and pics of the work.

Sooo--I don't know much about these other than what I've been reading. Is this type of oil leak common. Am I asking for problems? Or are these generally reliable and this sort of oil leak is par for the course?
