Long story short. I bought this truck and the dude was running a 6" lift on it. its an '09 PreRunner... Hoping to remove it for a ton of reasons but I am trying to figure out if I can even do that. Can anyone help me tell me if this is a drop bracket lift or not? I am really hoping it isn't as I am trying to lower the lift by 3" but realize it will be a TOUGH job if he did in fact cut the cross member beam to install the drop bracket. New on here and new to off roading so any help is helpful! Thanks yall!!

Looks like a maxtrax spindle lift. They usually aren’t paired with a drop bracket but you’ll need new stock spindles to go down to 3”. Good news is you can probably find someone that wants the maxtrax and is willing to trade.

edit: the spindle lift is stacked with a spacer lift on top of the coilovers so that’s probably where you’re getting 6” from. If I were you, I’d remove the spacers and leave the spindles and see if that gets you closer to where you want to be.

It's a spindle lift and a spacer coil lift.

I'd start by removing the top hat spacer and see how it sits and if you like it. It will ride way better without that spacer.

No drop bracket lift, and because its 2WD, it wouldn't have the cut x-member either.

Thats cause he don't have a front diff, he has a prerunner. You are thinking of a diff drop, he is referring to a suspension drop bracket. I was a little confused at first also. Had to look up what a drop bracket is. That is a nice looking knuckle.

As stated above, you have a Maxtrac 2wd spindle lift which is a great option for 2wd. You have the 6.5" configuration which is designed to put a 2.5" spacer on top of your stock strut assemblies. It looks like you have aftermarket Bilstein 5100s set at the 0 mark maybe unless they are cranked up a little (5100s have a 0 perch, .85", 1.75", and 2.5" perch).Given your UCA angle I believe you're probably right at the 0 mark so probably 6.5" of lift total so if you want to lower the lift it is very easy.

Read a tutorial on removing your struct but its very easy. Jack the truck up. Remove the strut assemblies following instructions how to, remove the top plate leveling kit that is on top of the assembly and reinstall the strut without the spacer. You will be right at 4" of lift. The Maxtrac spindles are the perfect lift solution for your 2wd Tacoma. Maxtrac are much beefier than stock spindles as well and will suffice much better for offroad.

Thanks for this info!! So helpful! Since I am 2wd i won't be doing anything too technical (live in CO). My plan is to do some light overlanding and push this truck as safely as I can. If you were me, would you consider getting a new suspension lift kit or simply just going with what you suggested?

I would just remove the spacer and take it for alignment! You should be good to go.

FYI when you remove your strut assembly. The piece circled is what you will be removing. It is a spacer on the top of the strut top plate to add lift.
