I tried to read everything I could find on buying a 3rd gen new vs used—almost always the advice is to buy new.

But I just came across a listing that is exactly what I want: silver TRD Off-Road. Listed for $33k with 43k miles on it. It's CPO from a Toyota dealer. One owner. All of the options I'd want.

The best prices I've gotten after a couple months of looking on a new Off-Road were all around $41-43k. And that was often the dealer giving me ~$1500 off sticker price.

So, knowing that new Tacoma prices are coming down, does that $33k for a '19 Off-Road with 43k miles seem worth it right now?

I know that others on here are much better at doing the math to figure out the value than I am. I'm very tempted to keep that $10k in my pocket, but also aware that it may be wiser in the long run to buy new. I just can't figure it out. Would love some advice.

At those price points, I’d go new, but everyone’s budget and situation are different.

I'd say it's a fair price. And 43K miles would not be a deal breaker for me at all. No warranty coverage of course, but that wouldn't deter me either.

You should be be able to get a non “tech or premium or” for a number that starts with a 3.

also what options are on the 2019? There is almost 7k worth of shit you can add

CPO adds some value with warranty and such. Look the frame and underneath over carefully for rust ect. Not sure what finance rates are on CPO, you might get a better rate through a local credit union or online through an advertised lender on bankrate.

It's coming up on 5 years old for a 2019. Keep that in mind when you pay it off how old it will be and the likelihood of any repairs or maintenance costs. Maybe they'll do 32k otd?

Good deal. Up to your wallet whether you should pull the trigger or not. People often forget that buying new is usually noticeably more than sticker price after you add in taxes, new tags/plates, insurance, warranty, etc.

Personally, I’m not sure a new Tacoma is worth the extra $8-12k if this one has all the options you want.

I paid about $36,000 for my 2019 Off Road, brand new. Pay what you can afford. I do like purchasing a vehicle with the new warranty.

Taxes tags/ insurance? Is the same new or used. And new warranty is almost always far superior

Taxes, tags/registration, insurance is not the same whether it’s used or new lol

As far as the warranty goes this truck will be about $10k cheaper and won’t have the added cost of a warranty. The odds of a Tacoma with 43k miles on needing $10k worth of work is pretty low. IMO the new warranty thing, while nice and gives peace of mind, is a moot point. It also seems like he’s buying from a dealer (unless I misread) which means it’ll have so,e sort of warranty.

It’s probably fine. It’s still a single owner vehicle. After the lease was up, it looks like it bounced around a couple different dealers. If they can’t sell it quickly they’ll auction it off to another dealer and another dealer will try their luck with it.

I don’t remember seeing that very often until I bought my Tacoma this year, and on the back end of the COVID market it seemed like it became much more common for dealers to do that. Seemed like I saw it on almost every vehicle I was looking at, including my current Tacoma.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Seems like a good deal!

Before you buy think about repairs needed like tires, Maintenace, battery ect. Also look and see if it had been in a wreak or flood and if you're in the rust belt check that frame. I know its a 19 but rust on these starts fast. Second gens are on here now with junk frames.
