Is this a good deal?

I paid $32k for my 2017 TRDOR certified used with 14k miles. But that was also at the beginning of the shutdown in 2020 and right before the car market shit up so I'd say that price is probably a good deal.

Went and saw the truck this morning. It stunk horribly like cigarettes and had two significant dents, so it's a hard pass from me.

And I dunno but it looks like the beginning of some rust issues to me. Is this "just surface rust" or would this alone be a dealbreaker?

 

Get the VIN number from the truck and put it into, kbb, givemethevin.com, and carvana. See what they value the vehicle at.

 

Yes, the dealership knows what they have and the margins of what it takes to make a profit.

Yup, that is surface rust. Dents and smell are not deal breakers. Put a couple of dryer sheets on top of the cabin air filter... located behind the glove box. The dents maybe able to be fixed by pdr (paintless dent removal) for a couple hundred bucks.

 

ugh, ozone machine or not, to many folks, you will never get that smell out. Myself included, those things reek of death.
Rust is okay for a 19, not terrible, but these are the reasons I would go new in this price range. I just had my 2019 OR sprayed again yesterday and the underside looks nearly new, but most people don't care for their trucks like that.

 

You chose wisely OP! Heavy cigarette smoke smell will stick around no matter what you do. I would never buy a vehicle that wreaked of cigarette smoke.

 

Skip this one, but that price for the truck is a good deal where I’m from.

 

for 10K more, you can have a brand new truck with a 3 year warranty and not have to wonder about anything.

So you are basically saying that you would spend $10K for a 3 year warranty. That's some expensive "peace of mind " brother. The truck he was / is considering was a CPO, so it does come with some level of warranty protection.

Used vehicles are not the total crap shoot that they were when I was young. Some risk yes, but one I am willing to take if the vehicle checks out.

3 year warranty yes, but also a BRAND NEW TRUCK. 4 years younger, 43k less miles, NO RUST.

 

Am I reading this Carfax right? This truck went 3 years and approximately 40K miles between services?

 

Plenty of places that don’t report service to carfax, or they could have been doing the service themselves. I agree though, not what I’d be looking for in a purchase.
