True, and it goes away at normal temp. Piston slap or some quark with 2.7 engines I guess. Thank you

My 2.7 does not make that faint knocking noise until its up to temp. The sewing machine noise is normal however

What weight oil are you running? Live in a cold environment?

Yes cold area, north united states. I use recommended 0w-20. buy it from the dealer every oil change. the outside temp when recorded was 70 degrees plus.

The sewing machine noise does not bother me. Its the lower knock noise I'm worried about? 85000 miles on the truck.

Yea I figured. Its not low on power. also is not that loud as you can hear (engine knock to me has always been loud). Noise disappears at around 1500 RPM. It is a 5 speed manual by the way. Could it be the Shift fork or something?

Was the oil you drained out of it when you did the oil change fairly clean or filthy?

Clean. No metal shiny bits. I change it every 4000 miles, so it gets a little dark obviously. Before I bought it it was always dealer maintained at every 5000 mile oil change.

My truck has done that for over 9 years. In the Winter, especially. I think it’s something to do with the VVT valve

Ok I'm glad I'm no the only one. The vvti or something like that could make since. There's also Hydraulic Adjusters in the valve train. maybe that makes a noise?

Another vote for normal here. My '06 has done this for 8 years now, regularly when temps dip below 55°F or so. Goes away after a minute or two when warmed up a little. No issues so far. There are some relevant threads in the 4 cylinder section, including one I started sometime back in 2011 when I had the same question.

If it goes away at higher RPM it’s not rod knock. I haven’t seen the vid but from descriptions it could be catalytic converters, exhaust leaks, a noise vacuum switching valve, etc.
Pull a spark plug. If it’s not sooty black you don’t have piston slap.
