Toyota never offered the e-locker with 4-cylinder *automatics*. In at least some years it was possible to get the e-locker on a 4-cylinder manual.

I guess I learned something... When I was searching for my Tacoma (which I now own) I knew I wanted a DoubleCab '01-'04 and had wanted a standard transmission that I had on my previous Toys. I was always told that the only option for that model was a V6 and an Auto Trans. I didn't know they came in any other configuration. I am sure there was no stick shift option, though. Am I right? Has anyone converted?

in the past 9 years, i have only seen someone ask and convert a dcab tranny once... can't recall who it was, but it was someone on the original TTORA boards back in 2004 i think...

    Lol. No.
i knew kyle was around here because when i first joined TW the first thing i started looking for was how rare these 4 cyl trd's actually are. I just never found this specific thread though some members pointed me in his general direction.
I did however find it quite funny that people chimed in and told him it was fake but really it was just ignorance of them not knowing.
he actually stopped by my build thread the other day and sai hi after finding out i have one as well so i thought i would do the same. :)

kyle?? haha, thats me, but well said! when i first posted this alot of guys told me someone slapped the trd stickers on the truck before i bought it!! but like you said, ignorance of them not knowing. but man I love this truck, I just really wish it was 4x4. im leaving for the army soon and i thought about selling it but im just gonna keep it and throw some nice tires on it. bfg a/t's.

its nice to see someone else with this truck! i honestly dont think theres more than 10 guys on here with the (dcab 4 banger trd). its slow but i dont need fast, it pulls my jon boat just fine!! :D

I also got my fenders painted matte/flat black!i cant wait to put them on!!

Guess it depends where you are. I don't consider these rare. I see 4cyl double cab preunners around here in LA all the time. I can tell cause they only have the "prerunner" emblem & no v6 emblem & they have the steel stamped wheels instead of the alloys.

But with the TRD package I've never seen & didn't know they existed so I would call that rare. Unless I'm just not noticing them because they have the alloys & TRD sticker. I'm going to keep a look out for them now.

I used to see a lot of S-Runners but less & less these days so they aren't really rare in my book. What I consider rare is the SST minis that have SST stickers, stripes, & Enkei wheels. I hear these were more popular in the central & eastern states.
