I have noticed a bit of greyish junk on my wheels right around the little lip. I have no clue what it is, what causes it, how it got there, nor do I know how to clean it off. It makes my wheels look ugly and if anybody has any information to help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
I can't really tell from the picture is it sticky? It kinda looks like a weight what there at one time.

If its removable Goof off should take it off.

no its not sticky.. although it could have been at one point and just dried up...
i doubt it was from a weight because my grandmothers wheels are covered in this stuff.

If it's an adhesive use 3M adhesive remover, if it is grime try 3M boat polisher, it comes in light medium and heavy oxidation. No I don't work for 3M but those products got stuff off my boat that I had tried almost everything before hand with complete FAIL! They just do what they say they will do!

i hope its not the finish.. it is raised a little bit. I think i may try the 3m adhesive remover and/or boat polisher! 3m makes great products and if its removable i will definitely try 3m. how much does the adhesive remover cost?

Looks like corrosion to me and the clear coat is broken. That is what allowed it to corrode.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
It looks like where the weight was. I know your grandmother has it everywhere, are you talking everywhere around the rim of the wheel, or literally the whole wheel? A good hard scrubbing with an adhesive remover should get it off.

If the clear coat is cracked then no, not really.

Sand the entire wheel down, then polish, and spray with clearcoat. Good as new :D
