    Hey TW,

I got in a fender bender yesterday and thankfully was able to drive the truck back home. Everybody involved in the accident is ok.

The damage I see is obvious with driver side door getting stuck now after that hit yesterday. Headlight doesn’t work and turning right is difficult.

Can any of you help determine how bad the damage is? I want to make sure the body shops don’t try to rip me off. I would really prefer to have OEM replacement parts but we know how insurances can be.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

wont be cheap, $7k minimum, if frame is ok....
    call your insurance....
how can you say I dont want body shops to rip you off & insurance company in the same sentence?

I suggest a bodyshop within your toyota dealer, vs outside shops cutting corners...
Seen a whole lot of butchery from independent body shops...

Most likely the frame on driver side is bent... check underneath and see if frame on both sides are even or not.

Other than that front end and fender are easy to replace. And the replacement hood.

It’s an insurance claim type of fix, let them handle it.

Idk I got sketched out when the ambulance chasers arrived like a minute after the accident. Pushing really hard to tow my truck right away saying that my sensors were messed up and my truck wasn’t drivable. First time experiencing an accident with this much damage.

not something you would have wanted to drive on, possibly doing more damage...
radiator could have been impacted & start leaking while driving, wheel alignment tearing up the tires, etc....
Insurance company will give you a list of their prefered repair shops, but you can take it to any shop you would like...
Toyota dealer shop at times will push back on the insurance company when they push for used parts,
also have the ability to just use all toyota parts & just cost them down to make it happen...

    keep them in mind

I wouldn't even bother with the insurance because you posted in the right place. All the advice you need is right here with a bunch of strangers on a internet forum making decisions based on your pictures.
    It's totaled, part it out.

As others have implied it’s an insurance matter. No one here can really assess the damage based on a couple pics. This is why you have insurance. Just turn it over to your insurance and let them take care of it.

It's going to be a lot more expensive than it looks. OEM parts is up to your insurance and whatever clause is in the contract.

If you ever wanted a steel bumper now is the time to get it, with cost of factory replacement bumper parts you should be able to get a nice steel bumper for a deep discount.
When I got rear ended insurance gave me over $1000 just for the damaged half of my rear bumper and I don't even have BSM sensors. So I got a brand new steel bumper for free.

If the hood is messed up enough for the need of a replacement I bet you could sweet talk them into getting you a scooped hood. If you like them that is, I personally hate the scooped hood.

    Yeah.
I would guess between $8-10K. While the frame might be tweaked a little, it doesn't look like it would be beyond straightening. Lots of panels and pieces need to be replaced, including the hood, and support stuff underneath needs to be repaired or replaced. It adds up pretty quickly.

The issue with difficulty when turning would be the biggest concern if it was mine. The other damaged parts showing are mostly plug-and-play. (Fender, bumper, front fascia/hood, lamps etc.) Hopefully the door issue is the fender pushing on it. Body work and parts expense is at an all-time high these days: especially things like sensors.

A collision shop will give you an estimate for free. You can go to one recommended by your insurance company or one of your choice. You could even go to more than one. The collision shop and the insurance company will handle it from there. No sweat. No tears.

You also likely have the option of taking a check from the insurance company and doing whatever you want with the money whether that being the collision shop repairing it, you repairing it, or buying your girlfriend a nice present.

You don't have to use the insurance recommended repair shop. Your insurance must use a shop of your choosing by law. If you live close to a dealership for exotic cars like Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Bentley, Lotus, etc. call them and ask what shop they use. I did that 15 years ago and the 3 repairs (one was close to a total) have been flawless and no failures.

Do not sign the adjustment check! Give it to the repair shop and if there is unknown damage they will work with the insurance company.
