They could have cracked it there is why they welded a plate. From the color of the manifold and exhaust she looks like she spent some time in the mud. That tells me the frame may be worse on the inside towards the back if it's got mud in it too.

are these frames boxed in at the back or can i inspect that?

sadly up there where the plate is I have no way of checking inside.

You can put a borescope inside one of those factory holes in the frame and view the inside that way. I think Harbor Freight sells a cheap one

I would also see if the owner will let you take a ball peen hammer to it and smack it around the frame to see if anything crumbles.

They have a really easy return policy, I've never returned something I've used (unless it was faulty) but honestly they're stuff is so cheap and a borescope is probably good to own anyway if you plan on owning a first gen, just to keep a good eye on the frame every now and then.

It would probably only work that one time anyway so you should be eligible for a full refund :D

I was mainly kidding, I'm supposed to have some other M12 Milwaukee kit stuff coming in. If I liked the bore-scope I'd only return it if I decided I like it enough to buy the Milwaukee one.

Who knows, may return the Milwaukee one if not as good as the HF one.

Here's some good news, alabama it's whole life it seems.

from what I've found the trucks completely clean, it maybe has had 4 owners, but is clean.

I messaged our free auto check man on this forum waiting for his response, but this is what i found googling.

still, be sure to check that frame carefully...it really does look like they painted over rust and the fact that a big metal patch was welded in can't be good. If you're comfortable with it though then I would definitely use that as a bargaining chip to bring the price down.

I'd try to bring it down some if it were me just based on the frame issue. 234k miles isn't a ton but it's no spring chicken either

It seems too nice to be true. I know where it’s at and know of the business. I do not know the man though. Will definitely go strapped to look.

The photos are screenshots I took. Apparently I can’t save pics off fb marketplace.

Yeah you're right old man... I should definitely upgrade to a 1st gen for twice the price of my 100% functional 2nd gen. I can't wait to reap all those benefits
The only issue I've had with those adjustable anchors is... my primate brain worrying about someone stealing them

It's kind of a running joke. Any time there is a thread in the 1st gen section about how much 1st gens sell for, inevitably some guy with a 2nd/3rd gen comments about how dumb we are for paying so much. It usually just turns out they're jealous about how our truck hold their value better (relatively) than the 2nd gens.

i was under the impressions that our 1st gens are now increasing in value after depreciating and bottoming out?
not sure if that is the case since I only have a few months of data to work with

does anybody have any statistics over the past several years?
what has been happening out there on the used market

Where I live in NC the first gens are not far off from the 2nd gens price-wise. Especially if the 1st gen is clean and has no rust. People that know are scared of the 2nd gen because of the frame rust issues and we do have salt on our roads in the winter.

Did you just put your plates over the rusted out frame, or did you cut away the old?
What kinda thickness is the plate you used?
Mine isn't near that bad, but it definitely needs some help.
