What light would be reflecting off of it? The oncoming cars headlights? Then I suppose your head lights would be on as well. Would it be a problem to put reflective tape on your bumper? Can one put reflective tape on their rear bumper? How would this be any different than it still being a sign? How about that trucker with reflective tape and lights all over his truck. I just don't see a problem other than as one said a cop with a chip on his shoulder wanting to hassle you for it possibly being stolen. Perhaps a stop by your local State Patrol office and ask them their opinion. Might get them to actual think about it when it is not done on a stop.

that looks awesome bro. Don't know how they could hassle you over it though. I would love to have one of those on my 6" lifted Taco. But one that said 100 MPH. :)

I'm confused as to what I'm looking at.
Did you put the magnets first, then the tape to adhere to the bumper? Why not just do the tape by itself? Or just the magnets?

The magnets are taped to the license plate with double sided tape since they aren't attracted to non-ferrous metals. The other side has double sided tape with the backing left on the side facing the bumper. The magnets are incredibly strong but brittle so this protects them and still keeps the plate very securely attached. I have to remove the plate for towing and then I just stick the plate onto my tailgate.

As long as you don't go over the speed on the sign you should be ok.

Huh, i always thought license plates were magnetic. Guess not.

I might have to copy your idea since I have yet to find a flip up license plate bracket that fits my aftermarket rear bumper

I didn't like the flip up that came with mine either so I came up with this compromise. The neodymium magnets are pretty cheap on Amazon but they are brittle.

It's obvious from your pic that it's "vintage", but sad to say: you'd likely get stopped for it in this area. I got pulled over because my rear license plate frame:
("Fly Navy" / "Naval Aviation") was partly blocking the State motto on the bottom. Go figure

I say leave it on. Let the Karens/Darren's tell you otherwise. Beside you can have a sign shop make this exact thing. And if a cop stops you for such frivolousness, which they are definitely known to do, ask him to show you the law that states this is illegal.
