My 2022’s bumper matches the paint pretty well

Thats just really shitty orange peel. Wasn't painted correctly or buffed afterwards. It is made of two different materials too so that should also be taken into account when color matching

I used to work for a chevy dealer. You wouldn't believe how much vehicles get damaged when being loaded or unloaded from the transportation trucks. lot techs are always hitting things too because they pack lots as full as they can. They just fix this kind of stuff in house and don't put it on the car fax. My guess, this is what happened and it was just poorly fixed.

I've seen a few tacoma's here, and my 2020 sr5 looks clear as glass compared to those pics. I don't know if the simonize glass coat i had done that makes the paint look that much better, but imo, your's look rough. I had made sure my truck was built in texas as i just favor everything major i buy be usa built....just a lifetime habit of mine, as i have nothing against mexico.

    Oh look, another mod....
I guess you'll never buy another Tacoma again. Because now they are all made in Mexico.

This was my truck about a week after I bought it. I had just spent like 5hrs ceramic coating it before this pic. Clear coat was perfect all around.604A30A2-3AEA-45C3-95D1-01511353A301.jpg

Camera angle? I can get my mgm to look just as bad depending on the lighting and angle.

Yea that looks like the factory dropped the ball, like they did on my rear bumper...?

I've been waiting to say this for a long time tho:

    It'll buff out.

lol. In all seriousness that's what it looks like. I even read in the manual or somewhere for my Subaru about paint coming from the factories with possible blemishes or unpolished parts. According to a bunch of YT car dealers, this orange peel is fairly common. It happens.

That said, I wouldn't be buffing out shhh... I'd take it to the dealer and they could try, and if that doesn't solve it then find me another painted bumper and I want the protectant on that one. Use that warranty. A "good" dealer would make it happen. Or be like me and make friends with the parts manager ;) "hey man I got this issue.."

The fender trim looks like it’s got the same texture as the bumper, how do the other three fender trims compare?

My truck ('22 green) and every Tacoma I've seen come through the dealership here in recent months have had the same thing.

Does the bumper match the body perfectly? No.

Is it an easy target to fixate on if you're already nervous about spending $40,000 and need something to catastrophize and lose sleep over? Yes.

    Does it actually matter? No.

TL;DR: All of the new ones look like that, the truck hasn't been damaged and repaired, and there's nothing there to "fix."

Just went outside to check my 2021 and it is also like yours but I haven’t noticed it for 6 months. The shade isn’t off like yours maybe because it’s white but if you get a few inches away you can see the little dipples from I guess the plastic and it’s not glass smooth like the body panels.

seems to be the same on the rear bumper pieces

if I had to guess looks like they painted the plastic bumpers with no primer. I have a rock chip on my bumper and don’t see any primer just looks like white paint on black plastic.

The bumper looks like it has been fixed at one point by a cheap body shop or they got a primer bumper and tryed to paint to match Color code themselves . U can do they at Napa and they will put it in a spray can for u. But with patience u can actually make it look good

That's been painted, IMO. Gap is funky, air dam doesn't fit very well either. Yes, plastic bumper covers have a slightly different texture than steel or aluminum panels, but the bumper seems to match the texture of the "textured plastic" fender guard. I've never seen a Tacoma bumper with that texture.

Plastic parts should not look like that on a Tacoma. The plastic vs metal panels should match....that texture isnt normal.

"This." Is wrong. Again, no way the bumper should have that texture

My Tacoma was built in Mexico. It's been very reliable thankfully. The paint is damn near perfect from the factory too. No issue's with the bumper paint looking anything like the truck in the first picture. :notsure:
