I completely agree. It’s almost like they are painting textured plastic.

Or mixing the paint directly into the plastic during the molding process. That's some rough orange peel.

It isn’t really orange peel it’s literally just the plastic. If you run you hand over the bumper you can feel it. It’s the same texture as the fender flares.

Proper paint jobs using flex agents results in no difference from metal painted...infact if there's flex agent in the paint it's the same mixtures across panels.

The bumper cover is not textured...

I feel like I'm on crazy pills on this thread. It's a shitty paint job. It shouldn't be textured/look like OPs photos. Anyone that has a difference across the body panels and bumper cover got a crappy paint job

    That paint looks flawless.

I think silver pulls it off as it's not as noticeable. The high and low dimples in the bumper look like dark and light silver flake in the fender.

My bumper cover looks nothing like that, it has no texture. Fenders yes, bumper cover no.

Some are off a little here or there. Stop by the dealer some time and look at a row of new Tacoma's. The gaps are hit or miss on the hood and front fenders. Mass production is bound to have flaws.

I actually go back to my original statement, are you all sure you don't have a dealer clear bra or clear bra spray installed? My bumper is smooth and also has xpel and it looks no different from the rest of the car pre and post xpel install. I swear this is either a bad paint job or "clear bra" spray in OPs post.

    Here's mine:

Actually now that you mention that, I went to the dealer for a recall and saw brand new taco, the gaps were horrible. Especially where the hood meets the fender.

I’m very OCD and i checked all gaps/lines on my taco and I couldn’t find any flaws.

It’s definitely just textured plastic not orange peel.

it’s the exact same as the unpainted fender flare when zoomed in 10x

I wonder if the off-road has painted texture, or if due to constraints, they painted the utility bumpers.

Im pretty sure my 2019 had the same texture on the bumper. Looking back at older pictures it also has a slight discoloration but honestly on both the 2019 and 2022 you have to look pretty hard to notice it in person.

it’s just a metallic color thing I guess

I say buy it and part it put. o_O

My 1/2 cent says it got hit on the dealer lot and they paid their lot lizard (local bumper repair guys that just work dealerships and fix bumpers) to fix it. The lizard pulled the bumper away from the fender to spray it, did a horrible spray job with the gun set on the wrong pressure and did not buff it after. And did not adjust the bumper when they put it back on.

    Paying 38k, I wouldn’t touch it without 2k off.

Yes I understand, textured paint can be color matched if done properly or there would be a lot of cars with messed up colors out there
