While looking for the source of an undercarriage clunk/rattle I found that the driver side cv joint has significant play in it. The passenger does too, but not even close to the amount on the drivers side. I've included a video. Is this normal?

Looks like it's time for a bushing from East Coast Gear Supply....are you lifted?

Bushing vs cv axle replacement? Or in addition too?

Was that at the differential, or the wheel end? It LOOKS like differential. If so the others have you on track. If that play is on the wheel end, your wheel bearing is shot.

So I spoke to Steve over at CVJ. After describing the issue to him, he said he didnt think that I needed new CV axles and suggested I have Toyota look at it before I buy anything.

Following his advice, I took it to the dealer to investigate my issue. Left it there and walked to work, but not before getting under a brand new taco and grabbing the driver side inner cv. Guess what. It moves just like mine. The service tech called me later and said there was nothing wrong with the cv or the needle bearing. Walked back over to the dealership and picked it up.

Very relieved that I didn't need new axles but might still do the bushing "mod" from east coast gear supply.
