So I was wiring in some bed lights yesterday and when I pulled off the rear drivers side floor trim I found the harness has been cut open. A purple wire has a butt splice and the white(ground?) has been T-taped. Looks like it’s either there for future install or something has been there before. Is that factory or had someone been messing inside before I bought it?

I bought this truck brand new last summer, first time doing anything electrical.

All I know is that is has been traded between dealers a couple times before I bought it.

I attached photos of the wires and of my originally window sticker if that helps.

    Thanks!

No, my wiring harness there is completely untouched and completely sealed. Someone definitely tapped it at some point.

Was probably rewired for a alarm or it had a tracking device in it at one point

That doesn't look factory to me but I haven't dug into wiring on this truck to make a definitive answer. Do you have a remote locking tailgate? Because that is a dealer add on and that may be where they tapped power for it.

Worked for a dealer. Manufacturer accessories sometimes used t taps which came with the accessories I installed. I prefer solder and marine grade heat shrink.

Does your 3rd brake light flash when you hit the brakes? If so, those wires were tapped for the flash module. Mine had the same thing but I don't remember the wires that we're tapped.

No I don’t have any extras installed. It looks like something was there but wa removed. Like the T Tap is installed but there isn’t anything hooked up to it anymore.

Could be a few things, I would suspect a power tail gate lock, running board lights, or canopy lights. All of which were likely removed on trade in.

I've seen new trucks with accessories on show room floors, that are removed for sales, including dealer trades.

So I unplugged it and my third brake light stopped working. So it looks like something was tapped into that light previously.

As far as I know it was traded between dealers twice. And I am technically the first owner. Again, as far as I know. lol

Yea that would make sense I suppose. That’s the best option right now.

Hopefully I don’t have anymore surprise taps and installations that I have no idea about. Lol

So that flasher for 3rd brake light is a $5 module?
Actually just bought (TODAY!) a 2019 Corolla SE for the girlfriend and the dealer has all their cars equipped with this flasher for only $299.99
oh well got a few grand off the MSRP anyway to get mad at it, just wont let her know

Meh, bullet connectors are fine. I’d prefer a barrel connector but he won’t be going under that floor trim too often.
