Looks like it had a 3rd brake flasher. The white wire was tapped for negative, and the purple wire was cut to provide the positive input and output.

Exept for Toyota distributors like GST and SET... the port options do.

They did this for both the bed lights and tailgate lock... probably what op has.

They're cheap and unreliable. I used to use them before I switched to better connectors. The crimping method is prone to failure and the male/female connection points are always too malleable. Whenever someone brings in a bike with electrical issues, the first thing I look for are bullet connectors. Thats just my two cents, I'm sure OP will be fine.

I humbly recommend something in this range for those interested:

    None as of yet
Not a trade in. But a trade between dealers. Dealers swap inventory all the time.

I don’t have tailgate lock or bed lights.
The purple wire actually powers the brake lights, as I found out. So it’s mostl likely the breaks flasher relay or whatever

FFS. 90% of rear end collisions could be prevented if people would pay attention. Flashing lights won’t fix that.

A few years ago I saw a compact car rear end a trash truck that was covered in flashing lights. It’s hard to pay attention 100% of the time so we’re all guilty of distraction at some point but this is just a cash grab that sadly is separating quite a few of P.T. Barnum’s suckers from their money.

Agreed. If you don't see a truck in front of you you're not going to see a small flashing light. For me I feel like my flasher was a distraction at night since there's too much splash on my rack that I see in my rear view mirror. Flasher got pulled due to that.

So is this a common place for the flasher module to be installed by the dealer? My 3rd brake light flashes and I hate it. Bought the truck as a CPO and didn’t realize this was installed until my wife was following me a few days later. I was going to wait until my first service and have them remove it but since it sounds like easy removal, I can do it myself. I tried searching on here but came up empty. Only found info in the 4Runner forum and it said drop the headliner.

Answered my own question when I got home from work. Sure enough. Simple fix to remove that POS. Looks like I’ve got a 2 minute project this weekend.

A pulsating 3rd brake light would just confuse me. As bad as the red turn signals on a 3rd gen/most domestics.

Wow that looks identical to what I have. I just don’t have the actual module. The T tap and bullet splice

I found the same connection inside my center console when I tore my truck apart for sound deadening. Definitely looked non-factory. I assume the dealer did it since I bought my truck new.

I'm actually looking at adding a 3rd brake light flasher to my truck. I like the ones that strobe for a second then go constant. Anyone getting to rid of their flasher module?
