Hey guys I have a question. I have seen many 1st gens going for 12k+ with low miles and well taken cared of, but they are mainly extra cab, double cabs, and/or 4x4. I have been looking for a sidestep for quite some time, but I haven't been able to find what I am looking for. I saw this recently but think its a few thousand off, but I wanted to check with you guys first and get any inputs. It does have all I am looking for minus the 4x4 or manual, which isn't really a deal breaker but will pay premium if it came with my wants (step side, lunar mist, buckets seats, 01-04, no rust, and low miles). Anyhow, am I missing on a decent deal (price wise) or keep waiting for something less overpriced.. Thanks!

Stepsides are kind of rare and the newer ones are more desirable.

But still, expensive. My 2000, with a solid drivetrain and dismal cosmetics with some rust and 180k miles was $2400.

Right?? Thats what I am thinking, don't get me wrong I don't mind overpaying for something I truly like/want, but this seems off by a few.. on the other hand, Id like to see if other people think its reasonable as I have seen on other trucks with similar prices...

I'll pay that all day!! out of curiosity, have you seen similar trucks like this going for 4-5k?? I have not in my area... mind you, I am willing to buy from anywhere in the country if the numbers make sense by the time its shipped and there is no rust on the frame...

yeah, I ran the vin through Toyota as well and I know it doe not have some of the options listed (cruise control, power windows, etc). Thank you for the input, I actually offered 10k to the "manager" and he said he was set on 12995. I have never bought a vehicle from a dealership without some sort of work on the asking price. Thank you for your input...

    That's a very clean 1st gen, but for a 4cyl, auto trans and 2wd it's definitely overpriced.

Maybe if it was a 4wd stickshift it'd be in the ballpark. <70k miles is really hard to find in these trucks nowadays.

Keep in mind, even though the 4cyl motor is a staple of Toyota's bullet proof reputation, when paired with the auto trans it is notoriously slow. At least with the 5speed you can rev it up and squeeze more power out of it. Though on the single cabs it may not be quite so bad.

With 1st gens you can only get a 6 lug manual trans with the 4x4 models. Prerunners were all auto.

If your gut really prefers a 4x4 and manual I'm telling you right now you will regret getting a 4cyl auto 2wd, the high from the purchase will not last long. Hold out for what you want, won't take too long to find here in CA. At least you're further north where 4x4s are easier to find. 1st gen 4x4s are rare here in SoCal.

While the price may seem high for most other people, this is normal for California. Light trucks like the Tacoma cost a premium here.

you’re right. You also probably need new tires and bushings. I just went through this in April with an 01 with 130k miles. Low miles but the timing belt WP wasn’t done. It needed shocks etc... I bought an 01 xtracab 4x4 TRD for $11000. This truck is more. It’s nice but 2wd. My dad in law had that truck I. 2wd and it’s good enough to drive in Colorado weather even snow If you have good tires.

I believe that. But I think the one of a kind super rare stepside is what’s adding 3k to the price. You just don’t see that.
