Hello, everyone hope you all are doing well. I just went on a 170 mile trip and filled up and I got 35 mpg. I was just wondering if any of yall ever got an mpg that high or if I miscalculated?

My long-term average is 35 mpg. Actually, my dashboard is currently reading 34.6 mean, with a 1 month range of 32-39.

...but enough about my car. This is a Tacoma forum.

Repetitively is what counts. Doing it once is great, but that could have been due to downhill the whole way, strong & steady tailwind, carrying helium ballons, high tire press, etc.
Do it again to confirm and dismiss your suspicion of a miscalculation.

Miscalculation. Pump probably kicked off early before the tank was actually full, and the fuel gauge needle really doesn't show much of a difference at the top of the range.

    4 cyl. or V6.
I've got over 23 on my V6. 4.0, but only on two occasions and both were at about the 65 mph range.

    I'm going with not possible...

But I will say my sister's first Ford Raptor with the 6.2 got around 22 mpg, while everyone we knew got around 15 under similar conditions. The motor ate itself alive at 8500 miles. The replacement got 15, lol.

My current average with a stock truck is about 18.5 calculated, the Ultra gauge says 19.3, but I found it's always high. Since I retired I've done more highway miles than city.

If you don't pester your sister about revealing the secret Raptor Conspiracy to the point of driving everyone batty, you aren't doing your job as a sibling.

26 is the best I ever got with a tail wind at 65mph and using cruise control. Actually that was my goal under these conditions and I went for my personal best. No fluctuations in the pedal from gas stop to gas stop.

My method of calculating. Reset the trip meter at fill up. Next fill up miles driven divided by quantity of fuel equals mpg.

Weights and measures does their job. But errors do happen. From what I’ve seen, the rare occasion when the pump is off, it’s in favor of the consumer very slightly. On extremely rare occasions I’ll find it off in favor of the gas station. Slightly meaning pumped 5 gallons, the pump says 5.2-4.8.

This. I've heard of people "calculating" fuel mileage based on number of miles per tank, which is a SWAG at best. Do the math, and for better accuracy, use a rolling 3-tank average. By that I mean divide miles driven by the total gallons of your three most recent fill-ups.
