Just got a 2010 Taco and I want a low-price 3" lift. I found this Toytec lift for $309.99 but I'm not sure if its really a full lift and everything I need. I plan to install the lift myself partially for price and partially because I want to get hands on with my taco.

Heres a link to the lift I'm looking at:
    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/BEST-SELLER-3-Lift-With-front-coils-rear-options_p_233.html

I'm not sure if the springs for the front is enough or if I need shocks with it too or if I can use stock shocks with these springs and get a lift. Also, would it be better to get better shocks and stock springs rather than new springs and stock shocks? It seems like my question is really if i should do an Old Man EMU or a Bilstein 5100 type lift. Not really sure the pros and cons of each or even if hats what i should be looking at. If you have any answers for me or can point me to the correct thread to answer my questions, please do.

remember I'm new to all of this so as much information you can give me the better!

    Thanks!

Should be good it doesn't recommend new struts until you go with the heavier front springs since it uses coil spacers to finish off lift height. You should be golden. Glad you posted this lift since this is what I want to do too and at a good price.

Oh and if you have some mechanic skills you can do it yourself and then get it aligned. I did a similiar lift on a 5 lug I had and it wasn't too bad

If you want 3" of lift, you'll want to go with the 885 coils in the link you posted in your OP. That is all you'll need for your lift but there are some things to think about.

1st is those coils will be taller and stiffer than stock. Throwing them on stock shocks will 'work' but they'll be a little on the strong side for the stock shocks to properly dampen. This could result in a bouncy ride and will cause your stock shocks to wear out relatively quickly. Not the end of the world but if your stock shocks are already questionable, this isn't a good idea and, regardless, you should plan on some better shocks in the future.

2nd, if you want to go to a full 3" of lift, planning on, or buying new UCA's isn't a bad idea to help your alignment. They're not always required and some poeple are more tolerant of the ride without them than others.

It's probably all you "need" but is it all you "want"?

Thanks guys! Your posts have been really helpful. Ill probably get this lift and then upgrade the shocks later when I have more $$$. Also looking at some AT tires and 6" rims. Thanks!

Do not put ome coils on your stock front strut/shock. This will kill them fast and ride very bad as the stock parts are no match for 885 coils then you will need to take all that shit apart again, compressing those coils is not a safe game without a proper compressor. Better off getting the biltein adjusta le fronts and using your stock coils. You wont need control arms with this setup if you have a good alignment shop. I initially got spacers, this killed the front coilover pretty quick so ome will be worse

OP has a 5 lug so that should be taken into account when buying a lift. I'm pretty sure the front end is completely different from the 6 luggers.

Pulled this right from Toytecs site:

Thinking about the same thing but with upgraded shocks. I did it on a Dodge Ram I had before. The shocks are worth it for the extra $3-400 upfront. Awaiting more info from the more knowledgeable folks on here.

I'm pretty new here but I have been reading this forum for months. I am trying to get a level-ish 3" lift on my double cab. Think I'm going to go with 5100s all around with OME 887 coils and a 1.5" AAL in the back. Headstrong off-road has a kit for $578. There is word of a possible group buy but not confirmed yet.

    The kit is here: http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/headstrong-kits-tacoma-05-6-lug.html

And the thread on the group buy is here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/gr...lstein-5100-ome-coils-lift-kit-group-buy.html
