Is this rust normal? (from Factory)

Didn't expect to see any signs of rust on a BRAND NEW vehicle.

Is this rust normal? (Rear drum brakes, exhaust)

It's broken.

 

Drums will rust very easily..
They are untreated cast. Very porous and rough. I painted mine

 

My 2010 BMW 335 had surface rust forming on the rotor hats on all 4 corners. It was annoying to look at but only surface rust so I wire brushed it off and painted it a matching silver and all was good. Moral of the story: it is going to happen.

 

And ignored...

 

Isn't this the same guy that thought there was a Toyota QC problem because of the "orange-peel" paint on the rocker panels? 4 posts in and already making a name for himself.

 

I thought my drums had rust on the one side too when it was in the showroom...ended up being copper colored grease..not sure if you ran your finger over what your seeing to confirm the depth of rust??

I see this kind of surface rust on new Chevys all of the time including $100,000 Corvettes. (I work at a Chevy dealer). I wouldn't worry too much about it.
