I have a 2020 Tacoma Off Road with 285/75/16s and a 3" spacer lift in the front and a 2" lift in the rear. Other than that it's completely stock. The truck is my daily driver and I do some light off-roading. I reached out to a local shop and told them this and they got back to me the following recommendation:

Toytec Boss 2.5 Aluma Series Performance Suspension System 2"-3" Lift
    Front Diff Drop
    Front Durobumps
    Rear Leaf Spring Complete
    Rear Durobumps
    SPC Adjustable Arms

The cost for everything listed above is $3,568, labor is $720, and alignment is $159. Total cost before tax is $4,447. I was hoping to spend a lot less as I was looking at the Eibach Pro-Truck Coilover Stage 2 (front coilovers + rear shocks), which lists for about $1,000. Are all of the components listed in the above quote necessary for my needs? I replied to the shop and told them I was looking at the Stage 2 and his reply was "that kit is not comparing apples to apples. The Eibach kit comes with no diff drop no swaybar brackets, no bump stops and nothing for the rear other than shocks. I think you would be making a big mistake just purchasing those parts and nothing else to go with it. The upper arms alone are 700 bucks."

I have no idea if he's on point or taking me for a ride, which is why I'm asking here. Appreciate your comments and advice in advance.

NOTE: this post edited to remove reference to fire roads and beach since I’ll be doing more than that.

Just that lift is 3k alone so the other 1500 is labor and alignment. Seems OKAY pricing but that alignment is super expensive. youre getting full coil overs and all that

Take the spacers out and back to stock and drive the truck everywhere you want. No need for anything that shop says for fire roads and beach.

If your truck already has a spacer lift, what is the goal of your new lift? Better ride comfort? If that is the case its going to be hard to get a "budget friendly" 3/2 lift that also increases your ride comfort.

Yep, looking for better ride comfort. However my current ride isn’t that bad to justify spending almost $5k.

I removed the reference to fire roads and beach since I’ll be doing more than that. But still nothing too extreme.

So as priced on Toytec what they quoted you was fair but you can find better shocks and components for less. You don't really need a diff drop kit, nor do you need duro bumps. OEM replacement kits are designed to operate within factory geometry so will work with factory components.

    All you really need is:
    Front Coilovers or Struts
    Rear Shocks
    AAL, Pack or Block

    Optional:
UCA - Helps with alignments for larger tires and increased droop for extended travel shocks
Ubolt Flip - Increased under axle ground clearence
CB Drop - Drops the carrier bearing to reduce potential driveline vibrations
ECGS Bushing - Replaces Driveside needle bearing that often fails when lifted
Swaybar Drop - lowers swaybar for mounting

What are you looking to do.... nobody can foresee what your butt dyno sees.
Maybe you need kings and a custom leaf pack, maybe you just need bilstein 5100's in all 4 corners and a add a leaf

In line with what I've been quoted for similar work.

With that said, you will save alot of that by doing it yourself - it's not hard. Hell, I bet some folks from here would even help you out for a few beers

Doesn’t seem like they are far off from what I would expect. You may be able to save a bit. I wouldn’t do the diff drop. The Duro bumps are also optional (I have them front and rear). I would strongly consider swapping the needle bearing on the driver side of the front differential to the ecgs bushing.

pricing seems fair, but you have to wonder if you need it or if the lift you have is enough for your use. I have done spacer lifts in the past just to get clearance to go on fairly simple off road treks. Truth is you really don't need all that much for simple off roading. And trucks look so much better than stock even with a simple spacer lift.

I think you misunderstood him or maybe I did. Telling someone to go back to lower stock height is like saying don't get those nice aftermarket wheels and goodies that make your truck look so much better. Lifts are partially about looks and in many cases all about looks. The question was never about going back to stock, so why introduce a non option as an option. that seems more douchy to me
