is this V6 running hot?

I've been using an Ultra Gauge for over a year now on my '15 V6 and it has normally run around 186 degrees but just recently (last three weeks or so) I have seen it spending more time in the 192-194 degree range. Is this what you guys with Ultra Gauges have experienced?

I only see 186 when coasting or downhill. Otherwise mine is always at 190-200. It never goes above 202 regardless of load and air temp.

 

Yes, mine too. Runs about the same... Transmission Temp is about the same as well.

 

In stop and go traffic with AC on and outside temps above 80, I get about the same.

 

You are fine. Anything over 200*F and you are most likely towing in ridiculously hot weather. Don't worry about it.

Same here, 185ish on the freeway and it pops up to the low 190's on a hot day, stop and go or heavy load.

 

I have a Scangauge II on my '13, coolant temp is normally 186 (highest seen is 194 in slow speed large hill pulls on back roads) and trans temp is usually between 100-120 driving to work.

 

This was my TFT when pulling a trailer during the hot summer last year going uphill. I figured this was about as tough as it would get. Ran just fine.

FYI the thermostat starts to open at 186 so, op you are fine. so long as you are under 212 you are good.

 

should be towing in 4 not D, your trans will thank you

 

Mine's usually right around 190. Goes up to around 200 climbing hills in hot weather or when towing like others said.

217º through the desert on I-10, during the summer. Around 115º ambient, that day. Windows down and A/C off. Flew past a lot of stranded vehicles that day.

 

This is a good general rule, but not always necessary. If the tranny is hunting for the right gear, definitely. If the load being towed is heavy and/ or you're going up steep inclines, yes. Light load and/ or flat terrain, driver can decide.

 

Our Subaru Outback runs at 217-221 deg F when its going up hill or towing our small trailer, normally around the 208-215 deg F. Warmer oil and air intake improve fuel economy IIRC

 

Also increased knock potential and gives a ~10º window before a warped aluminum head. Lol.

 

Just saying if he was in 4 he would not be seeing 249 tranny temp. Anything over 220 is pretty bad IMO. It does state in the manual to use 4 only when towing.
