Is Toyota finally shipping 16's with proper fluid levels?

I find that comment condescending given the fact that additional fluid made a huge difference with the shifting between reverse and drive as well as the mpg.

I'm not trying to be condescending at all, just offering some insight.

Good for you if adding some fluid gave you a huge improvement in fuel economy!

I haven't had to deal with them yet, but how ever bad they are, I hope they're better than I experienced with Ford. What a nightmare with our 2013 Edge.

My experiences with the service dept has been good. I have not seen any issues. Maybe I's going to one of the decent ones. Didnt have any service dept issues with my 08 Taco either and it was a different dealership.

I agree with Mach428... Transmission normally holds 10.2 qts. adding the cooler adds another qt capacity. being a qt low should not be a concern. Engines dont blow up from being a qt low.... Transmissions dont act up unless they are really low. This one is just finicky about being cold. There are some legitimate issues and people are having those addressed. There is not a car mfr out there that does not have a small percentage of vehicles that break after hitting the streets first year build or not.

Now now now Sam. There are people here with a good amount of professional experience on Transmissions who will adamantly disagree with your claim. Not good to spread misinformation!!

Mine is a Texas built trd or 4x4 with tow package. I haven't had my tranny fluid check yet. Hope to get that done Saturday. My salesman called me Friday and was asking me how my truck was doing as far as shifting is concerned. He said he had a customer bring his truck in and had the fluid checked and found that it was low. Once they topped it off the customer said it shifted better and it didn't hunt for gears as often either. My truck is shifty still, though not as bad as when it was new. Mine is a Texas built truck built 4/16.
As far as mileage is concerned. My daily commute is 50 miles one way with some rolling hills most of the way. I average about 18 mpg. With my best being 20.5 and worst bring 16.8 according to the trip report. The truck is very speed sensitive from what I have experienced. If you can keep it 70 mph and below your doing good. At 75-80 mph the fuel mileage really suffers.

Smitty, Straight up, if a transmission has issues from being 1/2 qt low then everyone who bought a 2016 Taco is in a world of shit! We wonder why corporate has never acted on the low transmission reports for the last 10 years... Not trying to spread disinformation but are there any official reports documented where a Toyota trans 1/2 or 3/4 qt low has failed? and it was due to low fluid? Is it such a POS that it wont function with 9 1/2 qts in it?

If you're so sure lets drain some fluid from your tranny and see how it drives

With all the issues with a quart low causing shifting problems maybe the mfg cut the capisity of the new transmission pan too close. Maybe the pickup in the transmission filter if there is one is too short. If there isnt enough capisity the foam in the fluid doesnt have a chance to disperse before it gets sucked back up in the pump. My transmission was shipped close to a quart low. Filling to the proper level made a difference to part throttle shifting on slight hills in my truck. Made the difference from being upset customer to one waiting for a reflash to resolve transmission timing issues.

If you think that's the case, go ahead and run your engine a qt low on oil for awhile and let us know how that goes.

Let's drain a q half a quart or a quart from your tranny and see how that goes for you.

Thought I would share my experience, just washed the ATF off my hands :) My truck is an OR 4x4 w/ tow package built 5/10 in Mexico. I have 250 miles or so on it and noticed the transmission being a little hesitant and clunky so wanted to check for piece of mind. I added 1qt of new Toyota WS fluid to start with. I then pinned the thermostat open and cycled through R and D a couple times to distribute fluid while I waited for it to come up to temp. The system ended up taking around 1/3qt of fluid.

Used one of my racing drones sitting on the steering wheel to help keep an eye on the temp light while under the truck :)

So, took my Tacoma into the local dealership today and they wanted to keep it overnight because apparently the fluid needs to be cold to check. I said no. The coolest part of the story was that they told me that they were gonna hook up a computer to my truck to check the tranny fluid level. I may be wrong here, but don't you just fill the fluid until it starts coming out of the fill plug? They are making this simple task a real pain in the ass. I went in last week to have this done and they told me I had to make an appt. so I show up today at 1pm when they made the appt. and then was told that the fluid needed to be cold. Why make an appt at 1pm in the afternoon in the middle of the summer if what you are going to do to the vehicle requires the fluids to be cool? Now I get to take it in at 7 am. Does the fluid really need to be cold for them to check it properly?

6/16 from the driver's door and I after 500 miles I've not had any issues, just some back and forth in cruise but I'd expect that with the new 6-sp transmission. And AFAIK my transmission didn't require any additional lube at inspection. My wife works at the dealership so I made sure to ask the manager handling my truck before the PDS was performed.

Yes it needs to be cold. And you driving for 3 min could warm it to a level where they can't perform the test. It's best to leave overnight
