I've been ordering some parts recently and being disappointed in "OEM" (McGeorgeToyota) Aftermarket parts being sold as OEM? I purchase a header and some tailgate straps and the header welds look like something a 12 year old did and the straps are not original parts (long by 1/8"). I could of bought them of off Amazon for the same length and quality. Can anyone add some insight on if the headers have always looked like this? For the tailgate straps I'll just have to deal with a scrap yard dig

That header looks like shit!! No way I would keep that. I would send the pics to a manager over there and call them. Absolutely ridiculous!

I wonder if someone returned aftermarket parts to the dealer and they didn't catch it?

    How were they packaged?

    Not surprising.

I mean, those welds will hold (that's what matters) but yeah it looks like complete dog shit coming from a welder.

Then again you'd be paying much more for that to have been TIG welded too.

Those tailgate straps are a DIY project if you wanted.

They sell steel cable at Home Depot, and right next to it the parts and tools for crimping.

Cover in your preferred jacket though the stainless steel rope would look pretty cool exposed.

I was not amused when I paid top dollar for a relatively hard-to-access OEM Toyota Tcase front seal that was marked "MADE IN CHINA".

Wake up....most all basic components and billets will be manufactured in china....

They're the only ones who will be able to afford/build the mega automated robotic factories of the future...

Wont even be a close second in the world......

Toyota could always be a couple mistakes away from being Chinese owned....

FWIW I've been ordering various Toyota OEM parts over the last few years and I can personally attest that the quality control is shit. Not even exaggerating when I say at least half of the stuff I've received had to be exchanged for new parts. Even worse there have been cases where I've had to exchange a given part multiple times until I finally received a good one, and even then I sometimes had to pick "the best one" (AKA the shiniest turd of the batch) with the least amount of defects and just move on with life.

I still remember when I was initially warned a few years back by the Toyota parts supplier/dealer and auto body shop to check any parts I receive right away for defects/damage as it's quite common. At the time I thought that warning was a little bit overly cautious, especially for parts sitting in a perfectly preserved Toyota box with no damage on the outside...but nope, sure enough out comes a part with whatever damage, defect, etc. that's wrong with it.

That said, I'll still take Toyota OEM parts over aftermarket OEM replacement parts any day, but I no longer blindly trust that whatever part I first receive is OK w/o first closely inspecting it.

Straighten out the old strap and I'll bet it's the same length as the ones you just got.

The manifold welds will hold without a doubt. It's not the prettiest and that I agree, but they're fine. Might have been a new guy on shift. It is hard to find good help now a days, this statement holds true even to the legendary Toyota USA brand.

Brand new parts fail or are defective right out of the box all the time. This statement holds true to the majority of auto manufacturers these days. Let this serve as a wake up call to everyone reading this to always check your stuff even if it's brand new.

You're not wrong. Not wrong at all.

I buy all my parts from Mcgeorge. Even bought similar parts (straps and a manifold). No problems ever. But i know the auto parts supply chains are completely screwed right now. Wouldnt be surprised if new OEM parts are being manufactured by new vendors in Mexico (where tacoma's are now made). I would email Mcgeorge... their customer service is really good.

Yeah u guys are nuts to give global trust to toyota.......the stories I could tell u....

Their litte 70 amp alternators and single core radiators are barely adequate....
and thats when the vehicle is new.....

They make damn good compressors...best I've seen...
    but their starters....not impressed....

    those cast iron headers ....yeah.....
the lower ball joint.....you know the oem one they sell you without a grease zert......

On all the engine sensors, oem all the way, otherwise weird stuff can start to happen....

Akebono for the front pads.......and rear $30 bendix shoes didnt have that feel....so tossed them and got the oem shoes from mcgeorge...

And then the pink slime......you've got to be kidding me....

safe for your dog to lap up......but ruins your engine, radiatior, and heater core over time......

Maybe square wheels next ?? So you cant accidentally roll over your dog....

Holy crap! Those are the ugliest welds I’ve seen that didn’t come from me. I’d be on the phone with them first before posting it online. How can that slip by QC? Lol

Those look like the FCA welds on the JLUs where the steering brackets were coming apart.

Yeah I’m not to happy with the steering rack I got either. The old leaky one steered a lot nicer.
