It's been a while since I've been looking for a truck to buy. I was trying to decide between GMC Sierra and Toyota Tacoma. I decided to go with Tacoma and I've been looking for six months.
ideally, I would love to buy a taco with TRD package (leaning more towards TRD sport). However, there are tons of Taco without the TRD package. Some of them are in decent price range.
I'm planning on putting a lift and bigger rims/tires for sure when I get it.
So... Is TRD really worth it?
What are the benefits of TRD compared to non-TRD?

If you're going to add your own suspension/lift, no

If you're not, TRD Sport is where it's at :crapstorm:

Really depends on what you like. In my opinion the trd seats are way more comfortable. You get the bed receptacle also. But it all depends on what you care about.

The off road trd has the locker and ATRAC.

Well if you're goin to lift and redo the suspension then I would say it's mostly an interior and exterior look thing.

I chose the TRD sport bc I Like the color matcha everything and the side turn signals and the scoop mostly and the interior upgrade.

Plus until I get my lift the sport tuned suspension is kinda nice.

I'm sure some more people will better help you on here as well

First off, are you getting 4x4?
TRD Sport- upgraded interior (seats), bilstein shocks tuned more for city driving, 17" wheels, hood scoop, integrated turn signals in mirrors, etc.
TRD Offroad- locking differential, upgraded interior (seats), skid plates
If you are going to upgrade suspension (lift), you might consider going with a sr5. But the interior is not going to be as nice. The interior is these trucks are a little lacking in my mind, but I think it's important to look at the "whole package" regardless of what you choose. If you were going to upgrade the suspension, you could always put wet okole seat covers on, and not really have the interior be an issue.

How capable 4 wheeling is the TRD off road 4x4 as a stock truck ?

It's pretty capable. I would say the issue that affects any stock 4x4 truck are the tires put on by the factory. Not as much traction, and geared towards better gas mileage.

I would be using it for offroading occasionally. More for when I go camping, kayaking, or transporting stuff.
I would love to buy 4x4 but it's been difficult to find one.
