This thread has me reconsidering my plans to lift my Tacoma. I only wanted to do it for the visual factor, I have no need for the performance factor.

I'd definitely reconsider. I'm not opposed to lifting- personally to consider, I'd have to do it right, have a need, and understand what maintenance and repairs will cost over the years. I'd also consider a much smaller lift, the greater from stock, the more upfront and down the road costs go up.
Added to the costs are also fuel.

This can also be hit or miss. Some boots may never split. I had work done to a previous truck, and the shop tore the boot when working on it. I look my rig over after works been done and discovered the issue. They tried telling me it was the angle, and they were full of shit. They messed it up, they then fixed it. Always look over your stuff before it goes into a shop, even a trusted shop.

But! I agree, thats a hell of an angle.

In my experience 2wd's tend to handle larger lifts better than 4wd's. For comparison, my tow rig is a 2wd '04 Silverado with a 4" lift running 33" tires. I've had no problems related to the lift in the past 12 years I've owned that truck and I've driven it all over the west, however were it 4wd it's common on those trucks to have issues with the Transfer Case due to the extreme angles caused by a large amount of lift.

The least expensive is the split boot. You just cut the old one off clean everything as good as you can an fill the new boot with grease and sandwich it back on. It glues together. I have never used one so I have no clue if they’re any good or how long they might last before the come back apart. I imagine not a super long time so it would be a bandaid but it could buy you some time and hopefully save your axle. I had this start to happen on mine so I ordered a cheaper set from A1auto and installed them so I could reboot and save my oem stuff. I’ve used them a few times on my own stuff and for friends that needed a repair but didn’t have much cash at the time. I’ve had no problems with any of there stuff so far. I think I spent about 200 for both so if your budget it tight it’s an option. As for doing the job it’s not to hard but not exactly easy so depending on your skills with mechanics you may need some help from a friend that’s done cv’s before.

I've had the same issue on my 2016 DCSB OR. Both times on my driver side. The first time was a year after my lift ( 2019 ) and noticed over the weekend it has happened again. The first time Toyota replaced it and I wasn't aware the lift was the actual problem. I'm updating to the Off Road Solutions boots, they are set to ship out today. I'm trying to get them covered by the Pro-Comp Lift Warranty Shield and will let you know how that goes.

I don't know the exact size of my lift, it was supposed to be a 3/2 lift. If someone has a stock 2016 DCSB with stock tires I'd love to know the distance from road to center point of fender well.

There are spacers for the front diff, that will help with this issue. Shop should know this.
