Has anyone else had an issue with their tailgate randomly showing on the dash that the tailgate is open while driving? I've taken it to the dealer twice and they tell me that they've tightened the latches... basically just lazy BS troubleshooting.

The electronic bullshit on this truck will be its undoing, I swear. When something uncommon lights up on my dash, I immediately think "what broke now...".

Yes, the same thing happened to me. The truck had 35 miles on it

It was closed, I opened it and closed it and then it decided now it was really closed.

Yep, that's how I clear the fault on mine, but after I've been driving for 5 mins it'll come back. Hoping someone has had luck with a dealer repair and has a root cause I can pass along to my service department... because they don't seem to have a clue.

Try clearing the fault and leaving it in the down position. The fault will not return. :anonymous:

Probably a sensor/contact issue, I started getting a check windows/window open message a couple days ago. Looking around at all my windows closed like wtf is this.

Turns out the rear window has a sensor with a metal contact on the bottom right side, the plastic cover has two snaps that hold it in place. I guess it popped off and the sensor was just dangling so the window would not push the metal contact closed.

It popped back in and seems fine, i guess it could of been loose from when I got tint and finally fell off but that was like a month ago.

Well that/those/these/this glitches didn't take very long.... :annoyed:

I didn't think 45k+ cars weren't supposed to have these issues. Good thing the window switch gizmo didn't get smashed by the window or something. Probably a back ordered $450 dollar part.

also I drive around a lot with the tailgate down, so if you just want to turn it off and ignore it, you can do that in the MID settings

I have the same issue, they ordered a part (didn't say what( but it's taken months and it's finally here, getting installed on Monday. My car alarm randomly goes off too due to the issue. It's really annoying. Today I saw a new trouble indicator on the dash which I believe is connected sensors for people/objects ect

Any solution yet? I’m still dealing with it after multiple trips to the dealer. It always returns.

I just took mines in for the same problem, when the light comes on the alarms goes off and the reverse camera and sensors dont work.
The answer they gave me was the latch was adjusted and the sensor was tighten or something and its all fixed as they say, came back on later about 2hrs later. Need to take it back to check it again. However I have a camper on so hopefully not the camper issues.

Holy crap this issue is pissing me off. Tail gate issues leads to alarm going off!!! Damn it. I've had to disconnect my 2 horns, and so *when* the alarm goes off it's not as loud! Now I'm leaving the tail gate down at night - seems to work so I might reconnect my horns. Pretty funny seeing my face when I try to honk at some moron driver but nothing happens. POS electric tail gate. Toyota you suck.

I'm praying some brilliant person creates a power tail gate DELETE that removes that garbage (tail gate motor, whatever else) but plays nice with the system. ()@*&#$%(*@^&%$)(#*$%&!!!! Love the truck. Despise this damn issue. Toyota, did I mention you suck.

Found this in Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/Tacomaworld/comments/1eqqh04/comment/lhtyknj/ Looks like you can remove the tail gate motor, but you do get a warning when starting truck. I already get a warning for turning off stupid park assist brake and something else. Don't know if this fixes the alarm going off. I can live with the dumb auto tailgate (better without auto lift/close), but it's the alarm being triggered that's driving me insane. And of course you can't turn the alarm off. You suck Toyota.

It would be the cheapest car in my fleet, except for the 3rd gen...so "funds" are not a issue in my camp....But what ever makes you feel better:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Counter point: 24 Tacoma, TRD OR premium, zero issues, thus far, with the tailgate, or anything else. It does squeak a little when going up/down, maybe I’ll make a post about that.
