Hi, I was hoping I can get some help figuring out which wires goes to what on the stop light switch connector on a 2005 tacoma, or if there's anything else that could be causing this that I could look into.

I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of my P0504 and P0571 codes; been reading around this forum and some other sites and so far I've made sure the brake lights and tail lights work, fuses are good, and the brake light switch was replaced, with the replacement testing good on a multimeter, but the codes still come back on causing my airbag light to come on and makes my cruise control not work.

Got a picture here of the wiring and the connector.

So I wanted to see if anyone could help me figure out which wires goes to which pin on the connector here, since Pin S10-1 was getting a short to ground, which the graphic below says it shouldn't be doing that.

And then also I was getting power from the ECM on ST1- when it was depressed, no power on STP whether it be depressed or released, and STP was also giving me a short to ground, which is apparently not what it's suppose to do.

Any help would be appreciated :)

I'm at work right now so I can't help much at the moment but the brake light switch consists of two switches.

One switch is normally open and the other is normally closed, when the pedal id depressed they switch.

The Blue wire should have 0v with the pedal released and the Violet/White wire should have battery voltage, with the pedal depressed the Blue wires should have battery voltage and the Violet/White wire should have 0v.

Green/White wire should have battery voltage all the time and the Orange wire should have battery voltage with the key on.

If you have any aftermarket lighting tied into the brake lights or a towing converter installed those would be my first suspects.

I went on and reconnected the broken wire that looks to be going to the ignition fuse. Followed through with what you said and checked each end and everything appears in order. The broken wire was on the #3 end of the connector. Cleared my codes after that and P0571 went away and cruise control works.

But now the only issue is P0504 comes on inconsistently. The airbag light goes away when I turn off/on the car and the P0504 reads as "HISTORY", but once I put it into gear and start moving it occasionally comes back on; if I pull over and scan the code it shows as "CURRENT". It doesnt happen all the time, but its more frequent when putting it into reverse, and when the code does come back its within a few seconds of backing up.

A lot less frequently, the code will come on when I'm driving forward, usually when in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Besides the code itself its not really causing me issues with the car itself, cruise control continues to work, and brake and tail lights function from what I can tell. It has the stock taillights and no aftermarket bits with regard to the taillights or towing package.

Not sure if related to the issue but the trailer harness has been broken off the mount and is secured under the vehicle with zipties; the harness doesnt seem damaged or cut, and the connector doesnt have any apparent gunk in there that would cause a short.

Well the code sets when the two brake switches don't agree. You should be able to see the switch inputs in scan data.

What's going on with the wiring at the switch there anyway? The colors don't match what should be there.

Also the airbag light is almost certainly unrelated, you need to scan the SRS system and see what code(s) you have in there.

I bought the vehicle used a while back and honestly just ignored the airbag light and cruise control not working till recent. It looks like the previous owner did some stuff with the wiring but I don't know what exactly.

I checked further up the brake switch wiring and the wire that goes up to Pin 1 on the connector had some damaged wiring. Patched that up with a roll of wire I had lying around and cleared the codes again. Drove around for a bit and the P0504 and P0571 codes don't show up at all anymore.

But the airbag light still pops up randomly. My codes reader isnt compatible with reading air bag codes on this vehicle so Ill have to get that done later on.

Does the airbag light pop up when you turn the steering wheel? If so it's most likely the clockspring (spiral cable).

There is a way to flash the codes out on the light by jumping pins 4 and 13 at the DLC.

Haven't really noticed that, but now that you mention it, it does seem to come up more often when I'm making tight turns to the left. Ill try to do the code flashing when I get the chance.

Hoping I understand the two PDF's you sent. Jumped the two pins and put it to ignition ON, and I get the following blink pattern:
    5 blinks, short pause,
    1 blink, long pause,
    5 blinks, short pause
    3 blinks, long pause,
    3 blinks, short pause
    2 blinks, long pause

and then it repeats the same pattern.

Just to be sure, that should mean DTC 51, 53, and 32 as mentioned in the DTC Chart, right?
