So just recently I have had an issue where my blower with the heater on was having a ticking noise when on the low setting then now it isn’t pushing any air at all but on the high setting it pushes air. Has anyone had this similar situation and if so what was the issue and fix for it?

Im having the same problem with mine. At this point, mine is complete toast and was ready to start fires...Do we have to replace the blower motor too, or ONLY the resistor and wires?

Also, the videos seem to be using aftermarket resistors...is there any reason the Toyota ones shouldn't be used? I thought i read that the resistor was already upgraded. Thanks!

I have put in 3 of these resistors. The aftermarket ones are junk IMO. Just go get the updated OEM replacement kit to splice in the new connector into the new designed resistor. The wires are easily accessible under the glove box. The original 2nd Gen design was flawed and you'll be fighting burned pins until to change to the new style. This is really a beginners DIY project. If you are nervous, use wire nuts on the splice for a few weeks before you use splice crimps to prove you got it right. Good luck.

Oh I'm all good to go on this task. No sweat. I'm just double checking OEM vs aftermarket since I seem to be seeing some guys going aftermarket and thought to ask why. I always do OEM unless there's circumstances that beg for otherwise. That said, is it 100% accurate that whatever my dealer sells me will already/definitely be an udated version of the resistor?

And, should I assume my blower motor is perfectly fine?

If the blower motor runs on either setting then it's fine. Nothing in the motor itself changes the speed or connection. That is 100% controlled by limiting the voltage by the resistor. On high the resistor is basically bypassed and you have full power from the battery/alternator. I have taken the motor apart down to the brushes to polish the commutator and oil the bearings maybe 3-4 times. Older 2nd generations had a bad motor design that would squeak over time. Later Toyota redesigned the motor which I then spend $120 for a new one because mine was out of warranty. It's been years without an issue now.

Ha. I never use any of that plastic crap. I solder anytime I'm forced to splice, gentle and pretty like :D

I got the new style plug and resistor from Toyota but I'm not electrically smart and the wire colors on the new plug don't match the wiring harness colors. Can anybody point me in the direction of where I can find the instructions to wire the new plug the right way?
