    Nice share.
When you manufacture 200k+ of anything every year, stuff happens occasionally. Dealer handled it like a champ, and you kept your cool instead of instigating a chorus of “lemon law” chants from the angries…

Hopefully no more issues from here. No guarantees in life but the odds are in your favor. Good luck

For what it’s worth my 2022 5th gen trd 4Runner which was built in Japan had issues straight away, there was a rattling noise behind the passenger side vent luckily the dealer heard it as well, engineers from Toyota told them to remove vent and put felt. They scratched my dash in the process.

also on my driver side headliner there is a random rattle that disappeared but with those you know never when it will come back

I don’t blame it directly on Toyota since the tahara factory in Japan where it’s built is supposedly the holy land but I truly believe a lot of their parts vendors and suppliers have taken short cuts. Toyota even released a press article about a year ago saying due to global shortages they are now accepting less than perfect parts when building cars due to shortages. That’s a bad slippery slope but they know customers are lining up out the door still so they will pump them out as fast as they can at the expense of quality

Kudos to the dealer for handling this exactly the way it should have been.

Glad they did something , IVe had an issue on a 2023 SR5 DC off road . I got it with just a little over 5k might as well say 6k miles. The first month i had it i think i had driven it to 7500 miles and i had noticed a whining sound from rear when i opened the back slide window and a what to me sounds like metal on metal just slightly and constant enough at low pitch you cant recognize it until you slow down and road sound is less. So took itin told what i observed which whining is directly correlated with the acceleration and prominent when letting off and gets to between 40 and 50 but is doing on the entire time just at different pitches per speed and acceleration . .I took it in and said id like to have my 10k service done ahead of time as with the reason and what to fix for the reason its making these sounds indicating something not right. They only had 2 tech that does test drives and one was on vacation so had to get rental , it wasn't until i called the next day after lunch what was progress that they were on it taking for drive now. ! hour later calls says it ready . They tell me mechanic says its just aggressive tire sound and whatever sounds i am hearing are normal for tacomas . I instantly knew i just got lied too and treated like my concern wasnt shit cause it falls under warranty and no money for theme . Its bill penny toyota of huntsville alabama btw so everyone knows if didnt know how crooked they are and professionals at it . I looked over check sheet of invoice of what they do at 10k check which is check all fluids and oils so area of my concern is either rear diff or transmission possibly making these friction type sounds. i look and the check plug on rear diff no markings of tools and the factory markings where mark nut and housing where last touched it was the same and of course we all know if your checking a rear diff your pretty much over filling it till it runs out and not a sign of anything wiped ir oily . SO i move to trans same thing thats a whole story also followed up by this ones results . Well my trust completly heart broken and wasnt till 3 days later i was thinmking fuck i need to check if they even did oil right . I check my stick and at the tip it had a clump of metal shavings stuck to it pointing out like it had some polarity too it pushing away from a magnet i wiped it off and pinched it off re put stick in pulled out had the same result pretty much , did this 10 or more times metal or shiney oil on paper towl every time , took photos called very mad emailed evfery single person i could at that place in sales service even bill penny , got a email saying if had concerns scheduele to bring it in , i emailed sales back he told me time and day , went in exact time to service area they said i have to go down to used csr garage i did then was told no they changed the oil go back to theme , i was just flabergasted i said look the sales guy told me to come in and we will handle it im told to wait , dude says sales manager said ya go ahead chamge oil look for what i had told theme metal in oil , i said i would like to see it as well , . ok ill come get you when it does it . A little time goes by i walk back their peek around corner see truck up on lift with oil caddy under it and guy cleaning his hands i walk over thinking sureley he stopped that oil from going down funnel into catch , nope he drained it and i askede what you see any metal he didnt seem to be concerebed and reached into funnel grabbed filter and started looking at it and said doesnt look like it , i said oil not filter he was like oh no didnt see any , . this gottentoo long part 1 done short story we talked decided to drop oil pan to check in for sure manger said i needed to go wait not supposed to be in their 1 hour later i ask dude says lets go see they have it on ground putting oil in it , im like ok he says we thought about it and probably saved you some troubleand didnt take it off if its still under warranty let warranty department check up at other shop , also let me add when 2 young maybe early 20s guys was using picks and flat head screw driver to pry at bottom of oil pan and was talking amongsr each other on how to get it off before i had to leave. Well with that in mind im fed up with it oil changed again went home , pull in driveway get out ot check mail and i see smoke and the smell of transmission fluid. i get under truck its still running i see smoke coming from exhaust near transmision and a squirt of fluid pulsing . They knicked and cut threw my transmission cooler line which is right in line with the oil pan . . hahahah ohh and if you want part 2 what comes next i can but this enough and im still having issues at 13k miles and taken it in other times in hopoes they do right . . . even found a tsb on a cabin dampener to quit whinning from rear that carries rhtew frame to cab to dampen sound from in cabin .. it did nothing of course but i sprung that shit on theme oh lord save me

Sorry but No. I would be really concerned if anyone could actually translate that.

Remember, Toyota Dealers have to deal with people and issues like this everyday.
My friend has been a Toyota Tech for almost 15 years and tells me about customers often.

I think long story short dude found some metal shavings in oil change and wanted service folks to check it out.

    AI to the rescue:

I had issues with my 2023 SR5 DC off-road, noticing a whining sound from the rear and a metal-on-metal noise at low speeds. After reporting this during a 10k service, the dealership dismissed it as normal tire noise. I found metal shavings on the oil dipstick, indicating a problem.

Despite multiple visits and attempts to resolve it, including an oil pan inspection, the dealership failed to fix the issue. They even damaged my transmission cooler line during service, causing fluid leaks. I’m still facing problems at 13k miles.

So I plugged this wall of text into ChatGPT and got this:

The user reported a troubling whining sound in their 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 and noticed what sounded like metal-on-metal friction. They brought it to the dealership, Bill Penney Toyota in Huntsville, Alabama, for inspection and a 10,000-mile service. Despite their concerns, the dealership attributed the noise to "aggressive tire sound" and typical Tacoma sounds, which the user felt was dismissive. Further inspection revealed untouched differential and transmission plugs, suggesting that the fluids were not checked as claimed.

Days later, the user discovered metal shavings on the oil dipstick, raising further concerns. After persistently following up, they returned to the dealership, where they observed sloppy handling, including missed inspection of the oil for metal debris. The oil pan was initially going to be removed for inspection but wasn’t, with the service department suggesting the warranty team handle it.

Following the visit, the user found transmission fluid leaking from a cut cooler line, likely damaged during service. Despite finding a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) related to their initial noise issue, their concerns were unresolved, leaving them frustrated and still experiencing issues at 13,000 miles.

edit: @goingplacesanddoingstuff beat me to it.

This ChatGPT thing is scary good. Just think folks that we are just starting to really make it work, in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years I suspect
we won't be able to tell the difference between AI generated 'stuff' and the real thing. My wife had a 'conversation' about something or other
related to Art and Javelina's.... the back-and-forth 'chat' was unbelievably real, not only that but deeply insightful of all things 'Artsy-Fartsy' and
    Javelina's.

It took 100 years from the Model-A to morph into a modern automobile.

A.I. will make that leap in a fraction of that time.... I probably won't be around to see the end-game not too sure I want to at this point LOL...
