    Hey guys,

Recently had a new ARB lock down differental installed in the front of my truck, the guys at the shop said that it would be super useful to get it for offroading on the forest service roads so I went ahead and pulled the trigger and had them install it with my new manual gears.

I turned on the locker when I was driving the other day and it's like the steering wheel is fighting me and doesn't want to let me turn? I thought maybe the 4x4 wasn't clicking in maybe or the brakes were messed up. I put it into 4 wheel drive and gave it some gas and this loud creaky noise like it's stuck on something happened then there was this jerky motion from the truck. I think they might have messed up my truck's brakes? Not sure what the deal is with it

Yeah I was just driving to my house from the gas station and decided to try it out and it started lurching everywhere and fighting me when I turned it on but stopped once I turned it back off

Is this a Friday thread or do you honestly not understand what a locker does and how to use or in your case not use one?

It can’t be a coincidence that we’ve had basically the same thread two Friday’s in a row. Besides no one is actually this stupid.

Tacoma transfer case is part-time so when you put it in 4x4 and lock the front and back diff any turns involve the wheels going at different speeds due to different distances so with no differential action in the transfer case the wheels will hop if off road instead of binding as on pavement. That's why lots of 4x4s have an "auto" setting on the transfer case and a center diff in the case - Tacomas never did and even the new Tundra does not - Dodge, Chevy, Ford all have the option so dry pavement is allowed. Those guys also have a neutral position on the transfer case so you can disconnect the transmission from the driveshaft and tow it. Go figure why Toyota never did this.

Not supposed to be in 4X4 on anything other than a surface with poor traction. Not supposed to lock front diff except in extremely rough situations and usually only when in a straight line. If you haven't already done so you're going to break the new diff.

Well the road was pretty dusty, like some dirt from construction and stuff but it was still hopping around when I pushed the locker button, maybe it just wasn't turning on all the way? It was pretty close to most of the dirt roads I go off roading on honestly

Jul 16, 2021 at 2:49 PM Post #59 -- perhaps you should follow your own advice.

"Getting 4.88s and ARB RD111 locker installed as we speak. I was squeamish due to the price tag, but it only adds like another hour of labor so it just made more sense especially since I already have the ARB twin compressor so I went ahead and did it. I'm thinking what the guys in here are saying about it being a tool to use sparingly to help you keep from getting stuck seems to be what most people are saying. I think @EatSleepTacos 's videos pretty well speak for themselves with the utility of it.

I'm super pumped, I'll let you know how it goes once I've had a chance to try it out. Shop is taking their sweet ass time getting it installed, but better than rushing it I guess."

    Nothing yet
They installed the canuter valve incorrectly. This is obvious because of the centrifugal vaginal rotation of the duche nozzle.

Easy fix, drive it on some chocolate frosting, must be home made, not that shit in a cardboard can from the prison annex.
Then just toss its salad with jelly, spin three times in upward brown.

    Done.

Im joking because i dont know wtf a lockdown diff is. Unless thats like a revolver diff. You know, 6 front diffs.
