Anyone else having issues with the 6spd auto transmission in their tacomas?? I have a 16 TRD sport 4X4 v6 w about 400 miles on it and the transmission seems to slip and slam into 2nd and 1st gears as it is downshifting.

If it's slipping or slamming you need to be asking the dealer what's going on instead of us. There are lots of threads though mentioning the trans hunting for gears, which is pretty normal from what most people can agree on.

From what I have read on here.... Could be that the transmission wasn't filled properly and could be low.

I get the "clunk" into 1st gear from reverse when its cold & sometimes the downshift from 3rd to 2nd... its intermittent... but when it's cold, it's all the time.

I'm glad that I'm not alone. Took it to the dealership to make sure nothing major was going on, they basically told me its a "learning transmission and takes time to break in". Whatever, it's covered under warranty anyway so I'm just going to drive the truck and enjoy it as long as it doesn't become a problem every time I drive the truck.

I was asking the community to see if its a common issue with the new transmission or something isolated to me that should cause concern. At the time of the post I had an appointment scheduled with the dealer.

Didn't someone post that their auto tranny fluid was low from the factory a month or two ago? Maybe check that?

How does this transmission function in the 4 cylinder model? I haven't seen much threads about complaints there.

I just picked my truck, DC Auto 4x4, up today. Only drove it around 20 miles home, and it seemed to function as it should. I also didn't seem to notice the excessive shifting as I was stuck in traffic most of the way. Definitely no clunk at all.

what ? Its not very popular combination. . 4cyl auto in Rav4 excellent idea,
4cyl auto in a truck not so much not sure who would need that.

I have same truck. Zero issues with hard shifts. It's 34 degrees here today and still smooth operating. Just FYI so you don't think that is the standard.

I have the 6 speed auto 4x4 and the transmission seems to be getting better with use, as others described (auto-learning feature). In general, it does feel a bit lazy going uphill, but I haven't felt any slipping or slamming, but I'll keep an eye on it when going downhill to a stop. I did have my dealer check the transmission fluid level before I picked the truck up and they claimed it was good.

And yes, there were reports of people with low transmission fluid levels from the factory, some claimed a quart low or more.
