**Mods if in wrong area please move**

I'll make a long story as short as possible. I have been plagued with nothing but problems since I bought my 2017 Tacoma (SR5). First I noticed on the passenger side of the vehicle on the bottom half of the truck bed that the paint was faded (my truck is black). Took it in and they said it was a problem with the clear coat and that they would get it fixed (this is back beginning of November). Shortly after the AC knob breaks. Take it in and it is fixed (several days without my truck). Then I take it in again so they can inspect it for the paint issue. Left it there for another two days or so and nothing is done. They couldn't come out to inspect it until the 12th of this month. During this time I notice on the hood and the mirrors that there are white blemishes in the paint (it is underneath) and some of these have gone through the paint and it looks like rust underneath. Then I notice on the passenger side door that there is a large dark spot (darker than the rest of the truck) about the size of one of those magnets people put on their vehicles to advertise. It's like one was left there for a long time and the rest of the paint faded. Sensor on the bumper decided to just come loose and kind of hang. LASTLY just the other day all lights in the interior went out. Opened the door to get out of my truck and POOF! All gone.

Truck is at the dealership right now. Some faction of Toyota came out to look at the paint and to not take responsibility for it. They indicated that when the truck was painted that it looks like some "chemical" got on it and then just painted anyway. So now they are contacting the company that did the paint job. I did pay for the paint protection (just because the truck is black and I knew I would have some issues at some point). All told I have gone probably around three weeks without my truck.

Has anyone had these types of issues? How did you resolve them? I'm waiting to hear back from Toyota to get a deferment on at least a payment or something. I'm just kind of at my whits end with this truck. I had/have my last Tacoma for 18 years and NEVER had these types of problems.

Sounds like you bought this truck used??? If Toyota is saying the paint process was messed up and is blaming it on the "company that did the paint job" then it sounds like this truck has had bodywork done at a second rate shop.... This would not be a warranty issue with Toyota.

If its a brand new truck then none of that makes any sense, they wouldn't say anything about another company doing the paint work that's not something Toyota outsources.

Brand new truck. Drove it off the lot and hit had 12 miles on it. I wondered about the whole another company did the paint job scenario. Thanks for shedding some light on that for me. It didn't make sense to me.

Have you filed a claim with corporate yet?? Definitely do that ASAP, sounds like the whole separate company BS is coming from the dealership not Toyota themselves, makes me wonder if the dealership is hiding bodywork of its own, it happens and normally not a big deal, I work at a dealership and we have to fix lot damage all the time. Legally you don't have to disclose it if the damage is <$500, we have an onsite bodyshop that does really good quality work so its never an issue for us. But some dealerships will take $1k damage and go to a cheap bodyshop to get it down to $500 so they don't have to disclose, but then you end up with shitty work.

Not saying that's what happened but its a possibility and kind of the only thing that makes sense to me with the whole "other company" thing.

Either way get a claim with corporate going ASAP, brand new truck you should not have to deal with this.

    This.
It seems that damage in transit or on the lot may have occurred. Get corporate involved.

It sounds like it was wrecked from the various the problems you've mentioned. Maybe the dealer/shop slapped a used door on the truck? Salvage title? (like from a flooded dealership in Texas). Something definitely sounds fishy though.

Get rid of it. Trade it in for something else. Take the loss.

That thought has crossed my mind. I emailed the dealership this morning and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I want to hear what excuse they come up with so when I get a hold of corporate I have all my info from the dealer.

Holy crap man! When I took it in on the 12th I had them smell the air coming through the vents. I told them it smelt like old socks/kind of musty. Well that explains that. I'm done.

Did they verify that for you?!

I once owned a Black Dodge ram. Several vehicles ago. Got it home, put in garage and was going to polish. Bright light directed at it. HOLY SHIP. You could see through the black paint. Looked like someone wiped down the truck both sides front to rear with a rag that had something on it. Right back to dealer. Said bad paint.Dealer says looks fine. Got a high powered light to shine on it and there it was. They offered to repaint truck over what was there but not strip it down completely. I said no way. You and I have no idea what is under that paint. Handed them the keys and walked away. Said sue me or I sue you. They got me another brand new vehicle and had the original scuffed and repainted with only the basic paint warranty. BTW the first truck was built in Mexico. GTS Bruce

I just bought a 2017 sr5 dc lb in super white. Among a bunch of other issues the paint on this truck is bad. The whole truck has a foggy haze with orange peel you can feel. Toyota rep looked at it, long story I'm trying to get out of it and into a tundra. This will be the last Tacoma I ever own! I looked at the tundra and drove it, way better all around.

Take good notes when speaking to anyone from the dealership. Write down who said it and what they said. If you are in person, take your notes in front of them.
A month or two down the road and your memory may fade. Corporate may have some questions that you will want specific detailed answers to.

There’s nothing wrong with your truck. The flares and bumpers have texture in the plastic just like the 2nd gens did, the paint is not dry or porous. And 040 super white is shot as a single stage from the factory so there’s going to be some level of orange peel, more so than a 2 stage refinish.
That said, every Toyota has orange peel, it’s not a Lexus or a european luxury car.

You’ve already been warned once. Stop the fake news and bashing.

There is something wrong with the truck paint. Fake news? You mean the truth. I'm not bashing I've owned 5 yotas prior with no issues so I'm not anti. There's one thing I've noticed with this forum as soon as you bring up an issue your accused of bashing and being a jerk. It's Really a shame.
