Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Fishing? It’s all I do, much to my wifes 35 years of consternation.

A 10 foot Lund on the roof. Rowing only. Have an electric motor. Hate it and never use it. Mostly trolling flies, but some casting if conditions are right.

If the trails are too overgrown to pack in my Lund (low overhead growth on dense trails) or the lakeshore is so rough a small boat cannot be launched, then I use my Fish Cat 4 belly boat.

No fishing the last 5 weeks. Last week is bad wildfires here, and before that 4 weeks of Covid infection.

Hoping to get out again later this week or early next. These days, it is not so much about the fishing as just getting out into nature.

Retired, so I get in about 30 trips from Spring to Fall. All over Kamloops, Okanagan, and the central interior of BC. All remote solo, and 90% of the time I have the lakes to myself. Always searching for hard to reach small lakes. This year I have already discovered 4 new lakes that are hard to access, and maybe 140 lakes fished in BC over the years.

I need more people sharing how they travel with their rods, I’m looking for a more semi-permanent solution to having a couple rods with me at all times and being able to safely leave a few behind when I go out on my kayak.

This is how I travel with my rods when we do a camping trip. They are ski racks and a velcro strap that wraps around them to prevent them from opening while driving. If its just me in the truck, then all the rods ride shotgun with me. There are 9 rods in this rack.

If I am going out where I might have to leave the rods in the truck, then I bring my travel rods. 3 piece rods, each one has a extra tip that is a different power. So I have a 7f spinning rod that can be medium or medium light, then a 7f bait caster that can be medium or medium heavy.

Rod vaults are over rated break them down and keep them safe and any big sticks travel in the boat.

I saw those and they’re pretty cool but I would be worried about my reels getting stolen. I’m paranoid lol

Oh I hear that, the musky reel closest to the edge is $300 by it self. These rods come out when we get to our destination, and someone is always in the truck when we do pit stops.

I really do like those though, I’ll most likely pick those up at some point. The easy solution would be to think about which rods I actually need that particular day and not leave any of them behind. Just out of curiosity, can you fit more than 9 rods in there?

I can fit 12 total if I stage them right so that the reels can overlap. So I would put heavy rods next to light rods and alternate between rod powers.

New to us 2018 Lund Renegade 1775. 60hp mercury 4 stroke, 2, HDS9 Lowrance graphs, with 2d and 3 in 1 transducers. Hoping to upgrade to the active target transducer over the winter. Great stable platform, awesome for casting and jigging, in Michigan and Northern Ontario. Ski

When I used to go fishing A LOT, like an unhealthy amount, I picked up a snoopy pole in about the same size so I could leave it in my trunk in case I came across a new fishing spot unexpectedly. It worked well and I used it a few times. It even came with a bobber of Snoopy's little red house with Snoopy sleeping on top of it.

Amen to this. I fish quite a few vintage bamboo fly rods as well as some pretty expensive Winston graphite rods. They get set up when I arrive and get broken down and put back in their rod tubes when done.

PS: i will admit that if I am only buzzing up river a hundred yards or so to get to the next hole, I will feed the rod through the sliding rear window. But I hate doing this with a few of my prized rods.

When I walk thru the PVC aisle at Home Depot, I keep thinking of ways to secure something like a 2" tube, angled up at about 30 degrees, to one of the slider cleats. Reel near the cab, tips pointed back and above the tailgate, if necessary. Based on the rod holders we have on most personal boats.

Not sure where you are located, They have been fishing lower michigan for a few weeks. We were on the saginaw river for walleye, thursday night. Nice looking rig, looks like ours, just a different brand. Ski
