    Mostly dust and dirt.
its Time for Toyota to come out with a new Celica.
But if they’re going to make it anything like the hideous abortion that is the BMW Supra then maybe they shouldn’t.

How about a RWD Celica? Since the GT86 is moving to a Toyota platform, they could build a Celica on it too. Heck, I would sell my TSX in a heartbeat if Toyota gave us a RWD Celica. (Thinking about selling it to get the next gen 86 now...lol)

The GT86/FRS has been filling the Celica gap for quite some time. Unless you're thinking like a sixth gen GT-4 type replacement. AWD would've made even more sense to partner with Subaru, but Toyota has gone out of their way to avoid doing anything cool for a long time.

I wasn't aware the GT86 was moving platforms (source? curious to read). They're finally bumping power on the GT86 next year and doing "final edition" runs in various other countries in the coming years, though the last I read it was open ended on the GT86's future in the states.

As far as I'm concerned the GT-86/FR-S has been filling the Celica niche for awhile and doing a great job at it. A GT-4 replacement seems pretty bad ass but there's no way Toyota commits to doing something that cool on their own. If we're talking name plates, that's an easy enough replacement...

    Why?

Ummmm, nah. Mostly 'cause I don't care what they do.

If I want a sports car I'll go back to Mazda.

They can just put a real motor in the 86 with the manual and I’ll be content

You think the Zupr4 was a bad idea, check out the rumor on the next MR2 ...

The Toyota CHR is the place holder for the Celica.

Not sure I'm seeing that. The most recent pos Celica (of which I owned a GT-S) was sub 2500lbs and had either 140 or 180 hp; don't get me wrong, it was fun at times but mostly gutless. CH-R is 3300lbs and 144hp. The Scion tC was a bloated evolution of the last Celica. The FR-S/BRZ is what it always should've been and the most logical place holder (in my opinion of course).

Place holder as in a Fwd coupe like Toyota, if someone was in the market for a Celica like vehicle.

Definitely not interested in a new FWD Celica! My money won't go there...

There are two upcoming Toyotas that I might be interesting, the next gen 86 turbo, and the next gen Land Cruiser if they change it to be a hard core off-road vehicle, not a fancy leather clad luxo machine.

Next gen LC has my curiosity for sure. Though half of selling that purchase in my household has been convincing my wife that the 200 series is a superior family vehicle. If the next gen LC can't meet those specs, I'm going to have to pivot or buy CPO 200 just off lease (as was the plan originally).

When was the last time Mazda made a “sports car”? 2002?

    There won't be another MR2.

2007 if you count the Japan made MRS.

Got your numbers transposed. Not 2002, 2020.

    30 years of Miatas.

2 seats, manual transmission, lightweight, RWD, 52/48 weight balance.

Their own race series, adaptable to v8 power. Some call it a poor man's sports car. I called mine a giant killer in Solo II :D

Scion was the last hope for the Celica.

It wasn't a money maker for them, nor were they ever really at the top of their class. Brief rally success.

Small sports cars aren't money makers. Family movers are money makers.

The CHR was originally slated to be a Scion. But Toyota was way to deep into it to pull the plug when Scion folded. So they through a Toyota badge on it.

Very good looking vehicle. Lots of character and great lines. But zero rear leg room, small cargo capacity, no manual tranny, no AWD and a 0-60 of 11.5 seconds.

    Too bad. :(

The original TC was initially penned as a FWD Celica

And it was awful, even with the 2.5 upgrade it was not pleasant drive to drive. It wasnt quick or a good cruiser.

Canada never saw the first gen TC but it looked more like a celica successor than the 2nd gen for sure.

I had a buddy with a 1st gen. I did a lot of mods for him...intake, exhaust, springs. It was decent. But nothing too exciting
