It has been about 18 months since I swapped and I still miss the Tacoma!

I have towed the trailer several times since the "trial" tow and my wife is fine. I didn't have to trade her or the trailer in just the truck. All of the things I listed in my initial post still irk me a bit but I'm getting by and trying not to be cranky about the storage although I am looking into the ESP storage mentioned by
I did join the Tundra forums and I'm also looking at the system they shared for power in the bed. It looks pretty sweet.

I think the head unit is the only part that I cannot rectify so I'm just going to leave it.

As you can tell, I do come back to visit just to see what is new and going on.

    Take care,
    Glenn

I just traded my 2016 Tacoma SR5 for a 2017 Tundra 1794. They gave me $22,500 trade, the only thing I miss is the easy parking. Parking this beast take a little time.20200917_174905.jpg

    Holy thread revival Bat Man!!!

Glad you are happy with the "new" truck. The Tundra certainly can handle the job.

But, having said that, given the info in the first post of this thread, I don't see why the Tacoma could not handle the job. Unless, of course, you also have ~500 lbs. in the bed of the truck.

Your GVW for the trailer certainly is within the capability of the Tacoma. We can argue how the V6 will deal with the weight going up mountain passes at the 10K foot level but I'd just as soon not.

Granted the suspension of the Tacoma is more than a bit weak for the GVW that it is speck for. And, I am assuming that you were not dealing with trailer sway but just the impact from the weak suspension; both of which could have been resolved and you could have kept you truck.

If it was trailer sway, that would imply that you needed a hitch with sway control. I am sure they are out there, but I have yet to encounter anyone who can set up a Reese sway control properly. I suspect other brands suffer from the same malady. But sway control systems do work very well when properly installed.

And, with leaf springs that could handle the tongue weight of the trailer coupled with similar springs in the front and appropriate shocks at each end as well, and your Tacoma would have been able to deal with your trailer with no problem; baring the power issue going up hill at altitude. A manual gear box goes a long way to helping solve this issue as well.

Any rate, all's well that ends well, eh? With the Tundra you can now get that new trailer with more space that you wife would like to shop for. :)

    Regards,

    Jim
