That probably is the best way to experience it. We always stayed in Pordenone and took the train as our housing was free there. Sometimes it was nice to save money and we enjoyed the quiet time on the train. We always had the kids with us so we weren't going to experience the nightlife anyway.

Nope. Got it while booking on DL. Airfare is $543 each r/t MEM-ATL-FRA-ATL-MEM. It's coach, MD90 domestic & 767-400 international. Added on the car for $273 for 16 of my days there. Of course fuel, even diesel, will be way more than the cost of the rental.

Venice really dies and it's you and the locals around 7-8 when all the cruise boats leave and tourists go back to the other islands/mainland. Nothing like having the Rialto bridge all to yourself

I have many fleece jackets and pullovers from many manufacturers. The lightest, thinnest one I have is Mammut and it is one of the warmest I have. I have no idea how it is so thin and yet so warm, plus it fits tight but stretches so it is very comfortable. Wish I had bought two.

Damn, that's a steal! We were looking at doing it separately and for two college kids they want to charge an arm and a leg. I'm also flying through FRA and interested to see what connecting there is gonna look like

We've stood in the Piazza San Marco when it was virtually deserted. Maybe ten people in the whole square including us. It was great going during the offseason. We avoided most places like that during the summer, so we usually had very little tourists whenever we went. I hate crowds.

No. I'll look when I get home to see if it says anything on the label.

You and me both, crowds suck. You probably didn't have all of the pushers on the streets trying to get you to buy trinkets either

I really don't remember any in Venice besides a few carts. Now Rome on the other hand, that place was full of them no matter when we went.

I only remember them in the square in Venice, I saw a few in Florence and Milan but nowhere near the amount I saw during the busy summer tourist season

Oh ya I guess I forgot about the <25 thing. It's been a minute.

Same here tho can't say it's been that way every time. All said, and not being a fan of crowds, I didn't find those in Venice overly rude.

I was ambushed while waiting to see the David & some of the former eastern block countries are miserable with people selling crap and kids, little kids, trying to pick your pockets.

All this talk has me excited as I'll be in Italy in three weeks. I've been preparing my liver. Cheap Italian wine! I can't wait.

We leave here on April 16 and come home on April 30. Wish we could stay longer, but I will be home for one day before leaving for Colorado for 2 weeks and my wife has to leave town the same time for Alabama. I guess we pay to play.

Fun note, I ended up re-routing us due to lack of lay over time in ATL for our fall vacation and added trip coverage. We only had 40 minutes at ATL and with a handi, going from domestic to international I was concerned. We will now go thru DTW on the outbound flight with ~3 hours. With the added trip insurance, the total for 3 (flight and car 10/31 to 11/15) is $2,055.34. I think it's a smoking deal.
