not at all. I just buy the vehicle with the best oem Audio package now. Or if anything I’d go with oem audio+. It’s all plug and play. No splicing required.

Yeah, all the vehicles I’ve ever driven, I’ve never messed with the electrical system in any way. I’m fine with cosmetic stuff, but if it requires cutting or splicing, it’s a no no for me, I don’t care how reputable the installers are, everyone makes mistakes or is prone to carelessness.

A properly done aftermarket stereo requires no splicing whatsoever.

I have very little confidence in the installers in this case though...

Ugly fact of life - pay an installer to slaughter the dash with t-taps and butt crimps, or do it yourself with a less invasive plug and play harness.

I learned a while ago that all things electrical need to be both reversible and easily identifiable. You never know if future-you will want to sell it, upgrade it, or troubleshoot it

Yep. I assume the only reason someone would splice is because they need it done *now* and not tomorrow. Which is a pretty weak reason to cut up oem wiring.

Well what ever is tied to that wire is drawing more voltage than it should be. So I would drag the stereo guys down to the stealership and tell them to work it out.

I have done plenty of aftermarket stereos in my time. But with the new canbus wiring being so small in gauge, it can't handle any more draw that what it is currently connected to stock. Usually you wind up with lots of issues all at once when the computer sees this through all of its voltage checks. That melted wire may run through the whole harness behind the dash, and someone found it to tap the alarm light flash.

I think that I would have the stereo shop remove just the alarm system. Have the stealership fix the wiring again. And go buy a boot for your front wheel, and a club for your steering wheel. No wiring needed!

OP - strongly suggest you remove ALL the aftermarket electrical, or sell the truck before you lose the 3yr / 36 month factory warranty. Make sure your next new truck has a satisfactory factory stereo system and do not modify it.

The last few posts have been spot on. Eliminate the aftermarket garbage if you're interested in actually bringing this issue to an end.

So, did the car stereo guys put the same old $80 Compustar Remote Start / Keyless Entry unit back in the truck?

Interesting problem. Question is did this problem started to happen “after the installed?” .
Did the installation maybe cause the burnt wire into? Accidentally?

Any electrical problems with the new computer will be very expensive to fix. Ask any mechanic, tracing each wire will be a cost too you.

My mechanic told me it took a day and a half before he found a broken wire, a few minutes to repaired it. (On another owner truck.)
The owner wanted to know why a huge bill if it took a few minutes to fix the problem? The guy didn’t want to pay the labor for the whole time the mechanic was tracing the wiring.

Can we start a whole thread about that right there? As a professional mechanic, that one hit me right in the kisser.

I'd get it fixed and dump the truck. Had a similar problem with my 15 F150. Wiring to the abs pump burned up just like this but at 52k miles. Ford couldn't give me a reason, said it wasn't covered by powertrain warranty and couldn't give me an eta on a new harness.

Got it fixed at an independent shop and is the reason I have my taco now after only having Ford's my entire life.

Look at the green wire with yellow stripe.

OP, is your truck push button start? Compustar is known for frying the dash harness on newer push button start vehicles with it's 30amp fused circuit. :notsure: Never mind, you have a manual, but still...

It'll take a while to give any meaningful updates.
The stereo, nor remote starter, was an issue the first time around...but dealerships are hardwired to point the finger at the easiest target. The first time it was several wires with sections of insulation stripped off, hidden under the wrapping of the wiring harness. They were satisfied that the stereo install was done correctly...and it all went back in the same way that they were satisfied with the first time, who can say what happened in the last year and a half that took until now to make itself known.
I'm going to wait till they find the problem and will report back.

Here's the way I see it. If the stereo shop that you went to cut any wires, that's where the problem starts. And they should've been smart enough not to do that. No one does that anymore.
I have a high end stereo in my truck, but I used a wire harness adapter to hook mine up. I haven't had any problems with it. IF I would've got an alarm or remote start (didn't have to because my truck came with factory remote start) I would've used a T-harness to hook it up.
In this day and age, splicing wires is a no-no.
So........I say anything that's been splice in needs to come out, because no matter what they say, that's where the problem originated from what I can tell.
And before you say anything, I've been installing car electronics for 33 years now.

Great prices for those fire extinguishers. All do NOT ship to Hawaii or Alaska.

I order another Battery jumper, Seller posting said FREE shipping to my Zip code,. I place an order and he wanted $13.00 more for shipping. He refuse to honor this.
Watch out for those Sellers and those who are asking ridiculous shipping cost . Many say only $12.00 plus $75.00 shipping…lol

One guy claim fishing reel excellent shape , turn out a bad deal. I ended up sending it in for repairs . Cost me additional $75.00 and the Seller and I when back and forth on his negative reviews. I had to block this Seller.

Buyer’s beware of -bay Sellers. E-bay and I work it out and E-bay was very helpful.
