I'm going with this as well, chances are the "technician" installing all this was 19, and only learned how to spell 'Remote starter' last week, and has none or almost no actual knowledge or training in this beyond what he's been shown there.

I've used it over and over, but keep going back to it, because it works so well.

So I got my 2021, Tacoma home and the remote start (from the key fob) worked for three days. Brought it to the dealer this morning because they claimed on the phone that it was a quick software fix. After sitting here for 6 hours, I’m being told corporate and their engineers can’t even figure out what’s wrong (service manager claims they’ve been on the phone with them all day). Apparently the “DCM isn’t reading the signal from the key fob to initiate the remote start”. They’re claiming it’s a new problem Toyota hasn’t experienced before.

Yep. When your start splicing into factory wiring it’s only a matter of time and the gremlins show up.

Yep. In a well run IT world a good Change Management process documents what was and what will be.

When stuff breaks, the first question is 'what changed?', and the last documented change is where troubleshooting starts.

That documentation also includes a method to back out the change and restore service.

Some folks like mixing apples and oranges to make a refreshing fruit salad.

And there are so many apple species you can even make an interesting mix of apples.

Subbed. I need to know what this was, but I'm thinking that it's one of those professionally installed electronics. I've been installing these type of things for over 30 years (stereos, alarms, etc.) and you have to be careful. It could be a loose ground, or it could be something else. Tracing electrical problems sucks.

I don't know....there is a reason the switch failed. I'm still thinking botched aftermarket install leading to a short, that took this out (switch and fuse), and then will happen again.

Overkill. 525 gr hard cast lead from a 45/70 is sufficient. Garrett or Buffalo Bore will have what you need. And on the plus side, should a Velociraptor look at you like a tasty treat you’re all set.

Nah, if I decided to use plinking ammo I'd go .458 SOCOM, straight walled antique cowboy cartridges don't auto feed.
