Have you checked with a Toyota dealer? I'm curious if they'd upgrade your lease to a more expensive model (it's more income for them). Take the mods off the current truck and put them on the new one.

If You don't get the V6 Tacoma; consider a shortbed reg cab Tundra, they can be had for less than the Tacoma, but are getting harder to come by daily due to the slowed production rate. The Tundra has tons of room behind the rear seat, and a nice split bench seat; with or without the SR5 pkg. Has the same drivetrain power, although some say it does a slightly quicker 0-60. Either truck would be no problem as far as power, but the Tundra might better handle the weight if an emergency maneuver should arise. Nice Kubota TLB you have , I just parked My 1997 New Holland outside, and put a new cab equipped Kubota inside, no more dust, bugs, and GA humidity while mowing; well still a little humidity problem, as the A/C gets so cold I get condensation on the outside of the glass at times.

    Viper is about 3,400lbs
    Trailer is about $1,800

I would tow about 3 times a month and it would be maybe a 300 mile trip each way.

I have towed, but now with the tacoma.

I haven't, because I think they would rape me bad! All they will wind up doing is rolling my current payoff in the new truck which I do not want to do.

It's a buyer's market. It never hurts to ask. Just be firm.

LRH's suggestion of a regular-cab Tundra is a good one, quite similar to what you have now but bigger. I'd look into that if I were you, and also a bigger Taco. You'd have to get an access-cab as the regular-cab Taco isn't available with a V6. Those would be my choices if I had to have a bigger, more powerful pickup than the regular-cab 2.7L Taco......which is likewise my all-around favorite since my towning requirements are fairly modest.

Most definately....he'd need the V6 in a taco. The Reg cab Tundra sounds like a good idea also. Whatever he gets - make sure it has towing package with transmission cooler. I'd also highly recommend getting an automatic transmission. The transmission and clutch (if he got a manual) are the wear/tear items I'd mostly be concerned with.
