It’s not TW’s fault, I have been modifying my Tacomas for years. It’s all the great stuff that I didn’t think about before TW. The vendors and parts made by members that put it over the top. So glad I found this place, my wife and wallet not so much.

Taco World is clearly to blame.
Sold my 1st Gen last year...then bought a near-mint 2015 2nd Gen. Decided I wanted to know more about it. Joined this site...
bad move, have changed the grille, shifter knob, added husky liners, added a JDM TRD logo. Thinking of wheels now...
Christ, I haven't dicked with vehicle this much since my '78 Celica.
    Cheers, Jeff

    It's a Tacoma Thing...It's a Jeep Thing...It's a Harley Thing.

Drove a Jeep TJ 13 years, and the only mod was 31" tires and a roof rack for surfboards.

Been riding Harley's over 30 years, and I've never ever bought a piece of chrome to just be adding a piece of chrome.

Only thing I've done to my Tacoma due to TW was the back seat mod with the tool boxes and a cover to make it level back there for more storage.

As stated by many already... TW is the culprit. If you don't want to get swallowed up by the mod bug, run. Turn around and run fast, my friend...

Because it’s the only truck platform WORTH modding.

After you install the specialized equipment you require for your on/off highway utility adventures, and USE it, it comes back home instead of shitting the bed out in the boondocks.

People all over the world know this, be it a hilux or Tacoma. I would also say land cruiser but it’s not really a truck.

If you are reading this....it's too late for you. It's the TW drug. Hooked, sucked in, trapped, whatever; and that's just the way it is...

I've done small mods to everything I've owned.
First truck was a Chevy C-10 and I made an overhead console for CB and Alpine audio, and a sweet piece of oak in front of the bench seat for the speakers.
other vehicles have had audio upgrades, and small things done.
A couple of them had platforms for a PC and permanent wiring for a GPS before road nav was a thing.
put an ahoogah horn in the PT Cruiser.

The Taco is pretty well equipped as is, but I'm itching for a sub, and am debating adding chrome, or blacking it all out.

It was 1987... the payments were $210/month and I was making <$24K/year. That research was pretty $hit simple!

Does it hurt when you pee? Because if you do, then you have the Jeep thing, which is far worse.

    Aftermarket radio knobs, woot!
People already took my hot take because y'all fast and smart but the honest answer to your honest question is that the Tacoma probably has the most quantity of aftermarket mods and probably the most enthusiastic community for all that... stuff.

There's also a more cynical take that the Tacoma lacks enough creature comforts that you kind of have to pump in some money to make the truck livable.

Third cynical take is that there are a gazillion Tacomas driving around and you need a bit of differentiation if only to find your truck at Walmart.
