Hey all! Bought my Tacoma a few years ago and haven't been overly impressed. After a trade show last weekend, the "mod bug," got me and I'm getting excited about it. My little brother and I recently took over a shop selling and installing aftermarket and bolt on performance stuff.

It's hard to explain how great the products are when my truck is sitting right outside the window bone stock. Unfortunately, my truck will remain mostly a pavement princess but I do want the ability and the aftermarket look.

Just installed a K&N cold air intake and waiting for a MBRP exhaust and a Prolift 3" lift to show up.

I'm here hoping to collaborate with people who know and understand what they got going on with technical issues and keep up with some very creative ideas that I'm seeing out there!

    Cheers!

You would have been better served by an AFE Pro Dry filter. K&N lets in too much sand and dust. Don't believe me? Run it for awhile and check after the filter. You will find dirt. Still don't believe me? Do a before and after test with your engine oil samples. Watch the silicates climb with the K&N.

Spacer lifts are dangerous. They allow the strut to compress fully without hitting the bump stop. This will eventually cause the strut to fail. They also make for a very stiff ride due to short suspension travel.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Stick with OME or better. Just keep in mind that you'll need upper control arms to get proper camber. You will also need to get the slip joint legnthened on the driveshaft, use a spacer on the carrier bearing, and probably clock the rear diff. Without doing this, you will wear out the outside of the tires, have driveshaft vibration problems, and shorten the life of your u-joints and bearings.

Sky tower, I appreciate your input but am not phased terribly. AFE has a huge following right now and that's great, honestly, their products sell like hot cakes and I won't argue for a second that they've got a great system. My motorcycle and my quad both run...better that sat on K&N and I want to see what it does for the truck. Spacers are dangerous but the Prolift looks pretty legit for what it is and I'm all about supporting young companies as long as they back it up. Nothing negative about MBRP exhaust though?!? I'll be back in VA soon brother, let's drink a beer. I thank you for the input on the technical issues. Some of it is going to be trial and error.

Everyone else, appreciate the welcomes and hope to BS about important stuff soon.

    Bruce welcome!
K&N will work great on your bike and quad because they are carbureted. On a modern vehicle, not so well, you'll have to check and clean your MAF sensor often because it will leave a coat of oil on it and cause the engine to run lean. Go with the dry filter like someone else said, your engine will love you more.

Ballz - K&N did a huge research project. Better than a million dollars spent in an independent testing facility to find out about that. Results showed that it was the MAF that failed or more specifically, a seal in the MAF that caused the problems. I don't have the proper verbiage at the moment to fully describe the results and the conditions that lead to the conclusion. I party like a rock star and this time of night on a Friday or Saturday is not the time to get into a debate that requires facts and proof isn't beneficial to my point. I'm giving it a try. We'll see what happens. I'm not a people person and I can't sell a dang thing if I don't actually believe in it so I need the expirence. Interesting though that you made that point. My motorcycle is injected also and it is very sensitive to temperature and mixtures. Interesting point. I'll have to look into it further. Appreciate it.
