I've enjoyed my time here, thanks folks.

Traded my 2016 loaded TRD because the AT wouldn't handle backing up my 4,275 lb HI-Lo trailer without really getting hot and smelling. I have a reverse "S" grade from the street to alongside my garage probably 5% or more. My driveway is on middle of hill and must enter from a stopped position reversing up hill.

Got a 2017 TRD MT and figured that would do it as did the local dealer. Both the 16 and 17 have tow package and were 4x4s. After 1,400 miles of breakin with 2017, went out camping, came home, went to backup trailer and cloud of smoke came out of clutch; stuff really smells. Engine either stalled or clutch smoked, but wouldn't back up trailer. Semi-trailer driving neighbor had same experience. Tried 4x HI and 4x Lo, did the same. AT did better than MT, which surprises me, but still overheated and would smell.

Lost my temper but managed to argue dealer into Tundra trade. Tundra handles backing up trailer with ease. My best guess is that the reverse gear in Tacoma is just to high for my hill and clutch isn't heavy enough on MT to handle loads. Tacomas do fine with my trailer in forward, but not reverse. Got to be reverse gearing not low enough and light clutch.

    Off to Tundraland...

I can understand the MT making smells but not the automatic.
