My neighbor currently owns a pristine 2004.5 CTD, 2500, 5.9 with 48RE he purchased new in 2004. He has just 58K on his truck (Only uses this truck to pull a 35' Toy hauler a few times a year) other than that he is a diesel mechanic, drives like a 80 year old man, eventhough he is just in his 50's.

Guy is religious about maintenance and caring for his vehicles, and his 48RE gave up the ghost about two weeks ago.

I don't mean to quote cliché, but these truck would have been best with the 5.9 mated to the Allison.

If I was the Op, I would look hard for a 6-speed manual, over the 48RE.

I had a nv5600 6 speed as well, the 06 will be the G56 which has its problems too.

my 7.3 super duty is currently parked in my driveway till it gets a 4500 dollar transmission cause its went out @220k, I would never buy another automatic diesel truck just cause how much a new one cost vs how long they last especially if you plan on tuning the truck and adding power.

I've been on numerous cross country trips and have never had an issue finding diesel. Maybe off the highway in the middle of nowhere but you will never have a problem finding it on the interstates.

Well at least you where smart and got a cummins. and i agree wish the tundra would get the inline 6 instead of the V8. maybe have to wait and do a swap. wonder if the 5.9 cummins would fit?

The Mini Countryman is kind of an oxymoron since there's nothing mini about it. They've sold out and gone the way of bigger is better, which isn't the case. They should've stayed with their roots IMO.

I work in lending and I dread dodge refis... if you want to see your money flushed down the tubes, buy a dodge. I actually like the big diesels, but 9 out of 10 dodges I come across are underwater. Fords and Toyotas are almost always money. (Wrangler's too are a safe investment)

Even if it did fit, there's not really a 1/2 front end that could handle the weight of that cast iron motor. This is one of the main reasons the CTD has a solid axle in the first place, and also the same reason those trucks wear out front end ball joints like crazy. That motor is almost two tons, wet over the front axle on a Ram 3/4, 1 ton. Could you imagine what that would do to a Tundra's IFS suspension?

That said, I still dream of a Tacoma Baja setup or TRD Pro-Series with a Cummins 4BT shoehorned under the hood.

I bought my 2500 Dodge because of the CUMMINS I sold it because EVERYTHING else sucked. It literally fell apart around the engine. I got really good at replacing front end parts on that thing though. The only thing making the sales decent are the CUMMINS motor for an option.

OP you made a decision that was dumb. I would not sell my truck for a ram cummins. I would rather borrow my dads diesel truck than own one lol.

Maybe you just like repairing trucks, the Dodge will give you the opportunity to turn some wrenches on it pretty often.

Butthurt? no. I really don't know what you were expecting though with this thread. Sympathy maybe? Again.... I've never understood the reasoning for these types of threads. They just make zero sense.

You bought a great engine attached to a shitty truck /end thread.

buy what makes you happy. I traded my tacoma for a new f150 with ecoboost and really like the truck. liked the tacoma but its just dated and way over priced for what you get.

And yet you bought one anyway. Logic at its finest.
