Yes, I am reading through the comments and started thinking the same thing. I felt sorry for you because of all the bashing when you are obviously exited about your new truck.:)
However, it seems like most speak from experience, and I have had my own Dodge/Chrysler experience, similar to the guys' above, so just keep an eye on maintenance cost. If the truck lasts and does not cost you an arm-and-a-leg to keep, then enjoy it (I am jealous of that diesel), but if you see it is becoming a money pit, like some have experienced, then start thinking of getting something else.

I do hope that it work out great for you and that you are happy with the decision.

Ohhh the Irony here lol. You do realize sir the current F-150 is exactly one model year older than the 2nd gen Tacoma right? The current F-150 platform debuted in 2004. Also a decent F-150 will cost anywhere from $45- over $50K, which will be worth less than 1/2 in two years (unlike a Tacoma)

Yes I do realize that Ford considers 2009+ (A different generation) but the reality is, most of the cab, body, chassis are the same carryover parts from 2004, still used on the 2014 F-150. Think of how Toyota just did an extensive update to the current Tundra, but it's more or less the same truck as the 2007 model.

If you noticed, I just posted earlier in this thread, the truck I just sold to get back into a Toyota after much disappointment. I just sold a 2013, Ford, FX4 EcoBoost (402a) pkg with Max Tow and every conceivable option MSRP was $53K and some change. The EcoBoost was pretty stinking awesome, and made nice turbo whistle noises, but the shortcomings outweighed the awesomeness, after the honeymoon phase was over for me.

For instance, I use my trucks like a truck. I haul and tow crap regularly and never could get better than 13-14 mpg's out of that truck. Also had a jerk or slip-yoke thunk I tried to have repaired multiple times with no luck from Ford. There is also a known shutter, I could never resolve from the truck, that occurs when you add 400-500 lbs in the box. It's caused from having too-soft of leaf springs, and makes zero sense why a truck made to tow 11,300 lbs would be fitted with such.

My truck never had the problem, but look up F-150 EcoBoost condensation issue that occurs in the trucks intercooler, causing it to stall at highway speeds. There are countless other issues that still haven't been completely sorted out wit this truck yet, that I hope are fixed in the next gen F-150.

No one is but butthurt your leaving they all come back haha. Speaking from experience I had one, like others say great motor but the rest isn't great. You can't put a strong motor mounted to a half ass tranny and not expect something bad to happen. Toss 2-3 grand at the tranny and they will hold up to stock power, atleast mine did I should have got the 6 speed. To me it's an unfinished truck as if they ran out of money to make it decent. It would be like getting a 10 year old used minivan then strap a big block to it and expect it all to hold up.

These threads are always the same. Fan boys are butt hurt so they come in here and bash the vehicle the person just bought. Listing anything they could think of that was wrong with it. Yet, there's a laundry list of things wrong with the tacomas, yet every fan boy seems to just forget about these. I think I saw reference to F150 leaf springs. Hoping that was a joke.

I agree the tacomas are dated. Not referring to the body style, but the features. Shit, I have to go aftermarket just to get a locking tailgate, yet still pay a premium for these trucks. WTF??

It all boils down to what you need. I've had full size Fords when needed, but have settled with the tacoma b/c I still need a truck, just not the power of the full size.

Enjoy the new truck OP. Should do much better with towing.

Granted, this is a Toyota board (more specifically, Tacomas) but the OP should not have to be bashed on. Have personal experience with a Dodge? Fine- share them...but we aren't going to turn this into a bashing thread...
OP- congrats on ur new purchase, and we wish you the best of luck. Hopefully you'll stick around on the forums.

Haha I wasn't even talking to you on that post. Might want to go back and re-read that post. But.... That was pretty funny I'll give you that

Fact is, I've really not said too much bad about your choice other than the vehicle that the engine is hooked up to. The Cummins is a great engine as I've said and posted many times in this thread it's just that the truck is not very good. Hell, I've even posted pictures of my old Dodge that I had a few times. Not sure what the personal attack was for but I did get a good laugh out of it so thanks for that. :)

Me too! I had a 96. Once my 3rd tranny let go - last one had a broken input shaft - I decided enough was enough. Here's a list of things I can recall replacing from 96 to 13: 3 trannys, 2 full front end rebuilds, 2 alternators, 1 radiator, 2 waterpumps, fuel pump, 3 sets of rear brake lines, countless front pads (I kept a set on hand and would replace them when rotating tires), 2 sets of front rotor/hubs, 3 radios (2 stock), many, many sets of tires, A/C problems. I'm sure there's much more... On the plus side, it would tow anything I could hook up to without a complaint. I'm sure I wouldn't have replaced as much stuff if I had left the engine stock but front ends, A/C, brakes, etc aren't affected by that. All in all it did get better mileage than my Tacoma.

I like my Tacoma - just wish it could tow a little more weight, had a bigger gas tank, and got a little better mileage.

I did front end components often, ball joints, u joints, draglink, tie rod and ends. But I'm glad im not the only one with the crappy AC when it worked it wasnt great got it fixed it still was crappy I ended up trading it in with broken AC. Haha my lift pump actually went out on the test drive so I got a new one and never had to replace it surprisingly.

I think you'll be fine with the new truck. Apparently its just me but we've had great success with our 04 Cummins. Bought it new back in 04 and have towed an absolute ton with it, and I'm not talking the occasional towing the ski boat to the lake sort of towing...It's towing a trailer at least 2 times a week. Every week. Mostly a 12' hydraulic dump trailer but also we regularly tow a 10,000 lb excavator with it. Over 100k on it and still no major problems! Good luck OP!

OP you must be retarded getting rid of your tacoma for that dodge pos. :p but seriously you got what you need and want and i hope you like it. i recently got out of my tacoma and got into a ford, the only thing i don't like is the extra width in small trails. will i come back to a tacoma, very good chance but only time will tell. enjoy your diesel :D

I dont feel that the tacoma is dated at all. I love them. Just at this point in life I have had to move to something else. Will I bash a tacoma? Never ever! love em. Still love the truck I had. I took it from stock and made it into a lifted truck demanding work out of me on 37's and it didnt once complain. Was it the smartest thing? no...but it looked damned good. haha

As for the new truck. I just got back with it and I am not sure how accurate the gauges are for the mpg, but on the ride back I was getting 20mpg. It is a dodge, so its prob not accurate, but even remotely close for a diesel and truck that weighs probably 2 times the tacoma...I cant really complain about that.

    Not a joke.......

pleanty of threads here about "soft & weak" 2009-2014 F-150 rear leaf packs that cause a shudder when taking off with a load or trailer.

if you get bored, re-search (F-150 Axle-wrap, 5-10 mph shudder, 15-10 mph deceleration shudder, hauling with weight and get bad shudder etc...)

but to get you started here some reading about the matter...

    http://www.f150forum.com/f38/acceleration-shudder-diagnosed-ford-112824/

    http://www.f150forum.com/f38/2011-5-10-mph-acceleration-shudder-140332/

    http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1065912-2011-shudder-at-5-kph.html

Again nobody is butt-hurt here, I think those of us that have (Been there & Done that) are just trying to provide a bit of helpful insight, those who may or may not know what they are getting into. Hind sight is 20/20 as they say, I didn't really need a diesel when I had my '05 2500, CTD.

Heck even my '13 F-150, EcoBoost pulled our, 30', 8500 lb Keystone Cougar easily, and was probably overkill for even that application. For the few times most people tow a year, a 5.7 Tundra is more than enough. Owning a diesel is "cool" for about 30 days, then the maintenance, additional cost at the pump, cost of registration for 3/4 ton tags, etc... along with taxing ride quality and headaches of everything else associated with it etc... just ain't worth it anymore. But to each his own.

    It's kinda sad actually.

Taco's are dated as fuck if your looking at a new vehicle. 10 year old engine with shitty MPG's. It's no suprise people are moving to a full size.

Enjoy your new truck man. For what's it's worth my dad has a Ram and it's been great.

Funny to hear that. I had a 2012 Mustang GT a while back. I didn't have it for long, only about 4100 miles before I got rid of it. But they asked me what I thought of the car. I described it as an exceptional engine, in a very much less than average car.
