I'm not sure if it's cold related, but it would seem like it.

For the past couple days I've been getting this sound from the front end - both wheels. It's hard to explain, but it sounds like a cross between popcorn popping and someone twisting balloon animals. And it only seems to happen during turning. When I turn passenger, the sound comes from the passenger wheel. When I turn driver, it comes from driver. It happens with fairly hard turns at slow speed.

For the most part that's when I hear it.... and it kind of comes and goes.

It's loud enough to hear over the stereo.

At first I thought it was snow/ice shooting up from the tire, but I'm pretty sure that isn't it. The sound doesn't really match.

At one point I turned hard, heard the noise, then stopped to do a visual inspection. I'm not seeing any ice build-up or anything rubbing, and I never had this noise a week ago.

    Any thoughts??

Is that a thing? It definitely has a rubber quality to the sound.

Yup! It is definitely high probability of being cv boots if not the joint themselves. My wife's '15 Camry hybrid make the same noise on the passenger side. Irritating as heck,,,,but dealer says nothing rubbing.

Ice trapped behind the mud gaurds is a common noise maker

Edit : just re-read your post that you didn't see any ice build up

Nevermind , as you were , nothing to see here

C'mon, give me a little credit.... :smack:

CV boot sounds like a possible culprit. I just wonder if that means something is starting to go. I don't remember hearing this sound at all the past 2 winters.

Never heard cv's make that kind of noise,
but if you want to find out if it is, spray the boots with some silicone and see if it goes away.
