I'd say you are likely correct... At extreme temps like that you don't like the sound of the engine when she starts.... Kinda like "clack-clack" for a while.... (not good)..
Most people won't even try to start a vehicle at -51, but I had to save a friend and his family, who's furnace died and I had to drive him 120 miles round trip to get furnace motor... That's when my 1965 Impala died...!!
Those temps are not good for motors, for sure..!

At that point you might as well turn the glow plugs on and get the diesel engines going.

No mandatory block heaters here in Muskoka, central Ontario....!! The dealers in "BF" Alberta (or elsewhere) will order what they feel is needed... here in Muskoka, not needed...!

You got that right my man... A frosty Taco is not what you want for breakfast... Warm oil moves quicker to get to where it does the most good..!!

Oh man that is way better....shhhhhhiiiiitttt wish that was my case. Why did they change it.

Update on the battery wrap tap in process, i found the cord adaptor you plug in has only a max rating of 10A 1200w. Which is actually quite a bit so the wire size should be no less than 14awg so good there and the battery wrap i found so far is 400w. That would draw 3.3A so there is 6.7A for the block heater....now does anyone know what that sucker draws? I couldnt find its ratings but i cant see that sucker drawing the remaining 800w do you guys

Whatever you do, do not leave it ON all night. it will melt the battery. Using a timer is strongly recommended.

Up here we just installed block heaters, oil pan heating pads and battery heaters/tenders, all run to a 3-1 extension that runs out the bumper. Gets everything warm enough to have a reliable start that doesn't sound like your engine is eating itself. It still needs to warm up at idle for a few minutes to get the rest of the fluids warm enough to work properly and it doesn't solve flat spots on tires, but it keeps the engine in better shape. Supposedly also reduces the level of emissions as well.
