I have a hornet alarm system in a box that i purchased a long time ago that I never installed in one of my vehicles. I found it today.

I was wondering if I could put it on my tacoma....but then I thought, but maybe mine already has factory alarm options?

It has keyless entry already, so what would the point be of having another aftermarket one to control it?

My truck beeps when I lock the doors. (leave a door open and hit it and it stays solid beeped)

Unlock the doors but never open one and it locks itself back.

When locked of course the little red light on the dash flashes the truck with the key looking light.

What dont I know about this thing or is that about it?

If you install an aftermarket alarm and it lets you unlock your doors and all that, do you just stop using the factory one? What am I missing here?

As far as I know, (little at that), if you have someone put in an aftermarket alarm system, it uses the same sensors as the dealer one...maybe they add a couple more...but whoever installs it should be disabling the dealer alarm so that the new one takes over. Or you get two alarms. That's cool!

Mine no longer uses the factory alarm due to the aftermarket one. The Viper added a few more sensors as well as another speaker. It also offers things (remote start, for example, and 2-way communication to the truck) that the factory alarm doesn't offer. All for pretty darned cheap (see my build thread). Much happier with this one.

Sale your one in the box.
Dont think its going to work the same as stock.
Yes disconnect your old one. One another would conflict and the horn would not stop sounding.

Why would u want to replace it anyway. For basically the same.
Remote start and those whistles why not.

I dont even know that I have a factory one. Thats what I am trying to find out.

All it does is beep if I lock / unlock doors and those little things.
How can I find out otherwise if it does anything else?

The things you described are consistent with just factory keyless entry and auto locks. None of that is specific to an alarm system.

    Thats what I was thinking.

I am not sure anything would happen if say I broke into my truck or busted my window. (not going to try to find out)

    :p

Well. My truck was broken in to...alarm was still active...they smashed in my passenger side window and apparently crawled in and tossed my truck...alarm was still active when I found it in the morning...so that tells you how good the factory system is...

Sounds like you simply have keyless entry. To double check if there is any alarm triggers, sit in the truck, lock the doors with the fob then try opening the door. Most alarms will be triggered with a door opening. You can also pound firmly on a window to see if there is a shock sensor (with the doors locked of course.)

Some models have a anti-theft chip in the key making stealing the truck a little difficult but not much I'm sure.

3" Revtek spacer kit in front w/ aal and 1" block in rear. No TSB aal installed yet. Spider Trax spacers.
OP What you have described is nothing more than toyotas Keyless Entry System. I have the same one on my Tacoma also.

It does nothing more than the locking/unlocking of the doors. If you want something that is going to alert you of a break in you will need to go with an aftermarket system, in which you would have a multitude of options you can use such as remote start, multiple shock sensors, tilt sensors, and lots of others.

    Hope this helps you out.

I have a viper alarm and its awesome. Id recommend that. My friend only reached inside my truck and it set off the alarm. It has a pager so it tells me my alarm is going off within half mile or mile depending on the buildings around.
