Let me just say this. I smoked for years. I quit cold turkey and was smoking three packs a day. Smoking was my best buddy. I spent more time with my buddy than I spent with my wife. Think about it. It took me about 5 minutes to smoke one Light 100. Times that by 60 cigarettes. Five hours with my buddy!
Once I did stop, driving seemed to be the hardest time for me. I pulled up to the intersection of I-295 and Blanding Blvd the second day of quitting. I looked in front of me and the person was smoking. I looked in the rearview mirror and the person was smoking. I looked to both sides of me and guess what...both people were smoking. It's been thirteen years since I quit and I still crave it. I would love to have one but I won't.
Good luck with your task of quitting.

Thanks MM -- hearing your story helps reinforce my 'urge to quit.' I commute to work and I smoked a lot in my DD, so that's been bugging me.

I think the hardest part of the habit to break is boredom -- I used to smoke when there was nothing to do. It's a very slow week at work, hence I'm on TW all of the time lately to keep my mind elsewhere... :D

I know you can do it!
You know it's time to quit when you play with your cigerettes as you're smoking. If you blow smoke rings or pat the end of the cig in the ash tray while lit, that means you're bored and smoking just to because...
Hang in there, it does get easier. And your family needs to give you lots of support. I know I'd bite their heads off in a second. But they understood.

Hang in there, you're doing great! I quit 13 years ago and believe it or not, I still get a craving every now and then. Thankfully I've never given in to it. You can do it and think how much better you'll feel.

OK - 48 Hours smoke free. Doing well. I've noticed some of my habits are changing - like I don't smell anymore... :D I think I'm a lucky one in that I am not experiencing any bad withdrawal affects.

UPDATE: Day 4 and doing good. I've really stopped thinking about it all of the time. I installed a new battery tray in my truck today and it became quite frustrating at times, so I craved one then -- but didn't act. I had some more coffee and got back to work.

I'm so happy that I'm doing this good! :D

Good job! It continues to get easier although there always seems to be those fleeting moments when I want a smoke.....they pass quickly.

I used to smoke weed almost 10 years ago and I still want to do that. I don't think that desire will ever go away.

    Congrats man, keep it up!

I smoked from age 15-19. Quit until i was about 22 and a half and then went back to a pack or more a day. I quit off and on in between, but never for more than a week. Then this past october (2008) i completely stopped. Got my girlfriend to quit too. It wasn't easy not to cheat, but it's that one smoke with a drink or when you're stressed that will start it all again. Stay strong.

I think the best thing about quitting is how revolted i am by cigarettes now. when i walk from my parking lot to my office, and see people outside of buildings smoking, i almost puke. I can't believe how many people and for how long i subjected people around me to my "right" to smoke.

    Cigarettes here are about $11/pack, so a pack a day * 365 days a year = about 4 grand a year. That's a vacation!
