Gee! Being an old retired fart my life lately has been looking forward to the mail man. The rivers have been punched out for fishing, the ocean has been victory at sea for surfing and well, hunting season is over! And I can only swim so many laps at the pool at the 'Y' (with all the kids peeing in it) and long walks and power naps just don't cut it. But I digress, old people do that. So what a surprise today to get a survey from J.D. Powers & Associates on my brand new 2017 Toyota Tacoma! Hey! They value my time and chronologically challenged mind to even conduct such a survey reaffirmed my value to society! They also, and this was a first, enclosed a suspect dollar bill for my 15 minutes of time to complete the survey. I'll have my credit union document it's authenticity before using it. Don't want to get in trouble at my age with the Feds! Anyway, I being of sound mind (and that's questionable) and body (which is going to hell in a hand basket without some surfing) went forth with accurately answering their surveys replicate questions (in order to minimize questionable responses). I gave the rig a 5 out of 10 after only 2,000 miles. I'll give it a 10 out of 10 after the 240,000 miles I got on my 2002 SR5 AC 4x4. The 2017, same rigs but way different and hopefully still in the field of dependability...........check in with me in 15 years. I did make it point to explain the lag issue and the safety factor while challenging them to step up and let 'em (Toyota) know owners are not happy with this. I also explained that shutting the driver and passenger door on the SR5 AC is like shutting the door on your seat belt (door jam retractor issue). Now any of us who have owned Toyota's know of the seat belt retractor issues. Not new, get a new one and it still does the same damn thing...............won't retract! So we live with it. Not a biggy or a deal breaker. Oh yea, I did point out that all rigs were suppose to have a side mirrow/aversion warning system whatever by 2017. All Toyota's (yes even a Corolla) have 'em except guess what? The fricking SR5! OK! Enough already. I'm not quite in the Smitty Camp of calling it a Turd Generation. Way too early for that but it's still in the honeymoon phase here for me.

My question to all of you good folks is this, has J.D. Powers contacted you with such a survey on your 2017 Toyota Tacoma and offered you such a generous monetary deposition for your time?

If you get such a survey I would encourage you to take the time to respond honestly to it. Who knows? Maybe any issue(s) you have with the 2017 will not fall on deaf ears. I just want Toyota Tacoma's to be the gold standard to small/medium size pickups.

My last 2 Hondas also did the seat belt thing.
I think Toyota left out the bind spot monitoring so they can add it in the future for Marketing purposes.

Hmmm? Every 2017 Toyota has 'em 'cept the entry models and the SR5. It was my understanding that those side mirror/warning devices were suppose to be federally (here in the U.S.) mandated on 2017 cars and trucks? Me thinks Toyota just wants to safe a few bucks and introduce 'em on 2017's built after May?

JD Powers would get a 3 out of 10 from me. JD Powers actually rated the 2016 a 2 star...so I guess I'm not far off.

I'd give it the same. I would have liked a little more "oomf" in my "premium" sound, some features like blind-spot monitoring for the price tag should come standard, even rear sonars. Some more response on the gas pedal. My experience varies much different from others however as I lightly use the truck. Basically my commuter because Im local to everything.

I have the BSM and rear sonar. The gas pedal I've gotten used to. Just like any electronic one, you get a feel for it over time. I've been able to adjust how much I press on it to get the response I'm expecting. I mean, it's not quick off the line or anything but I guess I never expected it to be either.

No so much quickness, but there's like 1/4" to 1/2" give in the pedal before it actually starts doing anything.

Yup, I just mash it in more to start with. Of course, then when switching to my Murano it feels like I'm flooring it from the start lol.
